Hi all,

My wife (Japanese national) and I (US citizen) have our I-485 interview in a couple of weeks. On our interview notice, it lists original birth certificate as one on the items we should bring.

A couple of questions:

1) In Japan, they do not have birth certificates. They have instead a family register (koseki tohon) that serves as a birth certificate. We submitted a copy of the family register and translation with the I-485 but we do not have the original. Do we really need the original or would a copy suffice?

2) Do I also need to bring my original birth certificate or would my passport be enough?

Thanks all!
