Thanks for sharing the experience. You're never asked for GC / extension letter when leaving the US unless using GC for visa free travel to countries who rely on it.

It's good you had original with you when travelling back. Most of the issues arise with airlines denying boarding US bound planes.

I also have an original extension letter but UNluckily enough the part that says "your GC validity has been extended for 48 months" is barely readable. I was wondering if traveling with that as well as a copy would be ok?

Any idea if it’s possible to travel woth a copy of the notice of action i797? My lawyer mailed the original to me but on the back it wrote “shred”

No one has to accept a copy.  See page 10 of 92:

"Expired Conditional Resident Card, Form I-551 accompanied by Original Form I-797, Notice of Action indicating the card validity is extended"

Can it be only the first page out of two?

If the notice has two pages, then it is two pages.

2/27/24: Extension Letter Available Online, Biometric Re-use letter, "Case is being actively reviewed"

Haven't flown from Frankfurt, but CDG in Paris with United.

United should be familiar with the letter. But make sure to come to airport nice and early.

Yes will do, really hoping they don't create any issues but given it's a big international airport and an American airline , they should have seen such letters before.

Just adding another data point:

United from Frankfurt Airport: No problem at all checking in with extension letter, agent was very well aware of the letter.

Newark Airport Arrival: CBP officer likewise no problem at all, just typed a few things (probably checking case status) and said welcome home.

Hi all,

Question that is along the lines of the question asked right above:

Has anyone traveled recently between Europe (Germany or UK) and the US on a temporary I-551 stamp? If so what were the experiences with gate staff at the origin airport and also from CBP at the port of entry in the US?

I have last traveled back to to the US with an I-551 stamp in my passport on Jan 1st of this year, but things seem different now.

My expired green card has the corner clipped. USCIS did this when I got my first I-551 stamp a few years ago. The CBP officer asked me why I did this, so I had to explain that USCIS was responsible for this. Anyone else have their corner clipped when getting an I-551 stamp?

I have a trip to Europe planned for late March with return to the US in mid April and am a bit worried.

Context: My I-751 is still pending (filed Nov 2019, Field Office tasked with case is Denver) and my extension letters (12, 24 and 48) months have all expired by now, I have had a number of I-551 stamps though as the letters sometimes would arrive long after the other one expired and I needed proof for either travel or an employer.

Hi!

I’ve recently travelled from Poland back to States via Germany. I have both the extension letter and a stamp that was sent to me via mail (it’s not in my passport) and valid for one year.

I had no issues with coming back, they accepted it when I presented it when checking in and when I landed in USA.

I do have a global entry and the officer was fine with the stamp. Of course they took me to the secondary room to verify my status, but it took maybe 10 mins.

I flew to EWR and had a connecting flight to MIA.

A few months back I flew in from Poland and went through the global entry queue and they had no issues but still took me to the room to verify my pending status.

I have one more trip to Europe next month and I hope there will be no issues :)

I hope that helps.
