  • 2 weeks later...

My wife is hoping to cross a land border and spend a few weeks in Canada with family. Should she expect any problem entering the US again with an extension letter? We have traveled numerous times with it before the pandemic but I cannot find a clear answer if the current situation has changed anything.

She would be bringing all her documents and certificates to back her up as well.

Hi Sally, no, you don’t need the stamp as long as you have the extension letter and this one is not expired. I traveled a lot before getting my I-751 approved, and I used my extension letter all the time with no problems. Once my extension letter expired, I got the stamp though.

Have you traveled to México lately with the extension?  What do you tell you on your way back?

Hello!

I am thinking of heading to Mexico next month! I’ve had my 18 month extension but I haven’t traveled. Has anyone traveled to Mexico? What did they do/ask you on the way back to the US?

i am nervous to go and they won’t let me cross back.

You shouldn't have any issues.  We just got back, land crossed in Arizona, without any issues.

I honestly scared to go to Mexico ( crossing through San Ysidro) and having to be stuck over there.  The anxiety kicks in just thinking about it.

I crossed at the east gate in Mexicali late June.  Other then the SetriLane moving a bit slow it was fine.  I haven't crossed at San Ysidro since 2018.

What did they ask you when you crossed? That’s where I crossed into Mexico - San Ysidro!

What happens if you travel so much that your extension letter ends up wearing out? For example all the folding/bending etc?  Do they let you make a copy of it and then take it to mexico with you so you avoid losing it or wearing it out?   I got to thinking about it because i know some people on here have almost exausted the 18 months with no answer to their petition to ROC.

Hey all! My GC is expiring mid September and I’m traveling to Pakistan next week. I have the original extension letter and green card and will be traveling on Qatar Airlines. I had two questions please:

1) Does anyone have any experience traveling on Qatar airline and did they accept the extension letter when boarding? Particularly for travel to Pakistan.
2) My parents want me to stay for 3 months since we are working remotely anyway and need help with childcare as all daycares are closed. Is there any trouble with being out for so long? I was also visiting family during my maternity leave in January for 1.5 months. Is the amount spent outside the US continuous or cumulative? My lawyer says it’s fine as long as it’s not more than 6 months at a time.

im traveling with a baby and am extremely nervous about this. Any help would be so appreciated.

Are you coming back after the extension letter has expired?

Three months at once is fairly safe 6 months and over a year is when people start to run into trouble.
