Anyone guys??!!

You'd need the I-551 stamp if your extension letter gets expired and I-751 is still pending.

But for now, as long a "combo" of an expired green card & extension letter is valid, you are good to go.

 Have a safe trip!!!

You do not need a stamp in your passport if you have an 18 month extension letter.  The NOA letter extends the expiration date printed on the plastic green card.  Present the expired green card along with the extension letter.

Thank you mate,

You need to call USCIS and ask for the watermarked original to be sent. Most airline agents ask for the original, and may not issue a boarding pass with just the copy.

I agree with WeGuyGal.  Watermarked copy is needed or you need passport stamped

just off phone with USCIS.  they claimed the non-watermarked copy of the 797c would be sufficient.  also refused to schedule appointment for 551 passport stamp on the basis that i received the 797c copy in the mail as well.

Can you provide the option number or the EXT to USCIS agent? I couldn’t talk with agent directly ..

thanks in advance,

USCIS will say anything, but without water-marked copy, do not travel, airlines will refuse to issue ticket.   My passport has I-551 stamp and it is stamped by USCIS , but I had to go for secondary inspection @ JFK ( one hr waiting time), so that they could check whether it is an authentic stamp.  If an immigration officer at the airport could not believe their own stamp ( USCIS) and need further checking, how do you expect other countries will belief non-watermarked copy.

Did you speak to a Tier 2 officer, or a frontline agent?

I suggest trying to contact USCIS again, hopefully speak to a more understanding Tier 2 official.

Hi Dilip,

At SFO, I arrived with my original letter and was still sent to secondary with a smile and a comment - "This is routine, don't worry please". They asked if I had an active petition, did some checking in the system for a minute and said I am free to go. This not only happened with the original notice but also with the stamp in the passport. However, I must say the officers were very nice and quick :) - No issues.

I agree, no issue , but had to wait 1 hr after 22 hrs journey from India.  Hopefully, will get citizen soon and no more to deal with USICS.

@dilip you NEED to get Nexus/Global Entry if you own a green card. It really speeds up the entry. My last entry was 5 seconds on the kiosk and 3 seconds ("Hi how are you?") at CBP.

You can always update your citizenship if you acquire US citizenship later... Also, there is never a line for global entry or nexus lines ;)
