True :) Last September it was my first time , traveling through Canada... I loved it! And I'm planning my next trip to Ukraine again through Toronto.

But   still - if OP is not a Canadian, when it needs to be checked if eTA needed for OP to travel through Canada. The only thing air companies'' employees were worried about was what did i have to travel through Canada.. Nobody really was concerned if I had something to enter the US :) ..until I landed in Toronto and had to go through both, US & Canada Customs.

Ahhh, I get it.  I misread the post.  I read OP was Canadian as in, it was their home country.  Now, I after rereading it, I see it is a stop over.  Thanks for catching that!  Good eyes!!!

It certainly helps answering questions when a profile is completely filled in.

What about at check-in for the flight back to the US? Did the airline employees at the check-in counter raise questions about the expired GC and did they know that the extension letter extended GC validity by 1 year from the expiration date?

I'm traveling soon on expired GC with extension letter. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on what airline you're flying. If American owned airline like Delta, AA or United you wont have any problem.

But if you're flying with different than these 3 airlines, then they will question you. Just make sure you bring the copy of this before travelling:

https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2017-Nov/carrier-information-guide-english.pdf

Just print the first page the one with statue of liberty and page 38 then show it to the check in agent if they will question you.

I did, in Sept. 2017. With Air Canada/Lufthansa. Not a problem, at all. And yes, Canadian Customs,  is well aware what a "combo" of NOA-1 + expires green card stands for - so no worries :)

The only thing - you might need a eTA (electronic Travel Authorization). Depends on your country of origin .Here is a link  - you can check and see. And if you need one, it costs $7 and  takes 3 minutes to apply and you will have your eTA approval via e-mail. Valid for 5 years,

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta.html?utm_source=slash-eta_ave&utm_medium=short-url-en&utm_campaign=eta

Good luck and have a safe trip!!!

Many thanks! Yes kind of worried about both going through NOA1 and eTA, and didn't know the name of the latter.

This is the reason to love VJ !!!

I have several times. Nothing to worry about.  Canadian Immigration officers know the drill and are very welcoming.  Have your letter, expired GC and passport ready and your good to go.

ps Canadian Airlines??  I think you mean Air Canada.  Air Canada acquired Canadian Airlines long ago. ;)

pss Are you sure you want to go there?  Ontario is still in a deep freeze :o....not sure about the rest of it.....dress warmly and have a lot of fun.  I'm headed there in 2.5 weeks....yeah!

Oh gooooood!! Yes, Canadian Airlines sounded a bit odd. It's Air Canada.

I'll be stopping over just over an hour in Canada, so was worried if there's enough time for them to figure out NOA1 + expired GC.

Thank you !!!

Well, if you have an hour on your way to your home country, than it should be ok

But if it's on your way back...... Since you'll be going through both, Canadian & US Customs, you'd need to hurry up.

A  good thing is - you don't pick up your luggage in Canada, like you'd have to, if going through US Customs in the US.  So it does save a lot of time. ..

But most likely it won't be enough time to buy  Canadian Maple Syrup at the airport  But other than that you should be fine... just hurry up!!!

Good luck!!!!

Oh yes there is....Timmy's is all over the airport.  Inside terminals and gates and outside.  You won't be going outside however, they'll keep you safe inside.  As for that salmon, you might find some smoked in the duty free shop.

Hi, I have a ROC pending, I applied in April 2017, and am going to be travelling for a few days back to the UK next week, without my husband. I will be travelling on an extension letter, which expires in July.

I was told that if I am, for any reason, denied the 10yr GC while I am in England, that I will not be allowed back into the US, and will not be able to file an appeal. Has anyone else heard this? My husband, job, house and life are in the US, so this would be a big issue.

Hoping it was scaremongering but thought I'd ask...

I would not worry about it or change your travel plans because of it. There has been a lot of discussion about this topic recently (because of the extended delays in reviewing ROC applications), and the consensus seems to be that there is a theoretical possibility that one would be stuck outside of the US *if* an official order of deportation is issued while you are abroad. However, in order to get to that point, there would already have been an extended process in which the person is notified of the intent to deny ROC, given a chance to provide additional information/plead their case, and only after that process has taken its course would a judge issue an official deportation order.

We just came back from Hong Kong, and that's what I did for my wife, who used her green card with extension letter. I put in the date a year from the expiration date on the green card.

Also as a side note in case someone has similar itinerary, our itinerary: US -> Japan -> Hong Kong -> US, left on 4/16 and returned 5/1, her extension letter expires 8/31, and we had no problem at all with her green card with extension letter.
