She can leave country once advance parole / travel permit (I-131 form) is approved (processing time is 70-90 days) since submission - no need to wait until adjustment of status approval.

Assuming however if she applies.  One isn't just granted that.  Most don't hence the logical response is to get adjustment of status approved first.  Furthermore receiving an advanced parole isn't guaranteed.

I just want to chime in and say what my experience was like flying Gatwick to Denver on an extension letter.

Gatwick - the Norwegian Air staff didn't look like they recognised the letter, but they accepted it without question. My boarding card had a note on it (that I assume was manually added) stating 'Green card exp has ext letter". I had to present this letter 3 times - ones in the checkin line for the security stamp on the passport, one at the actual checkin, and once when boarding the plane itself.

Denver - I was automatically directed to the electronic machines to scan the green card by the assistants there, who wasn't surprised that it didn't take (Errored, said document expired, directed me to manual screening with an actual person). I took this slip, my passport, green card, extension letter and customs declaration to the CBP checkpoint and wasn't asked a single question. Let me in without hassle.

Flying internationally in a week and my POE will be Denver too. Thanks for providing this info :)

I would recommend asking for the I-551 stamp at infopass because that's cutting a bit too close.

Depends on the real ID act situation. Yes it is US territory so technically you don't need a passport, but with the situation what it is in USA currently, better to cover your butt and get the stamp since your letter is expiring. I always try to err on the side of caution

Good Afternoon,

I was trying to access the document Derwood posted but was unable to access it. I am currently on a green card extension for the i751 removal of conditions. My expiration date is August 15th 2018 as per the extension letter. My husband and I want to take a trip to europe in June 2018 for a month. Can we trsvel back and forth safely on the extension letter with the expiratio  date so soon? Also if i dont hear anything regarding an appt, do i automsticslly get another extension letter in the mail, or do i need to make an appt at my local immigration  office to get another one?

Yes, you can travel with the extension letter in June (assuming you are returning before the expiration date on August 15th). If you do not receive your permanent green card before the extension letter expires, you will need to make an InfoPass appointment at your local office to get an extension stamp in your passport (which is usually good for another year). Nothing will be done automatically.

Yes you can travel safely with the extension letter. You will not get another letter instead you will need to make an infopass appt to get the I-551 stamp in your passport.

Since you don't list your travel dates and could be leaving yourself with little time afterwards, I would check first to see what info pass appts are like at your local office.  If they are difficult to get and your cutting your trip close to your expiry, I'd make the info pass appt prior to your departure date to be safe (it might be difficult to schedule an appt afterward especially if you have more travel).  If it isn't a problem booking an info pass appt and you have time after the trip but prior to the expiry and you have no travel plans then wait til you get back.

However, all that said, USCIS has transferred many applications to the local offices to assist with the extreme workloads at the service centers so you could have an approval by then. You can check your status in 2 ways.
