Has anyone had experience flying through Denver or Gatwick airports with an expired GC and an extension notice?

How about with Norwegian airlines check in staff?

I may be having to make some emergency travel soon, but I'm worried about flying through a smaller airport that may not see as many extension letters, and how a low cost carrier staff will see the letter.

My assumption is if an airliner flies to/from the US then the ground staff would be trained to understand US Immigration and types of visas. LGW is a big hub in UK which sees people connecting from almost all parts of the world. DEN on the other hand might be an issue, unless the CBP officer is knowledgeable. I read online that once a CBP officer question a US Citizen how long he/she was going to stay in the US. Nonetheless, I'd say that all of us are not illegal and the extension letter does grant us authorization for employment and travel. So, don't let that stop you from your travels.

Me and my wife who has the extension letter flew to Cancun Mexico last month.

Only small issue is she had to go thru the line for non us citizens instead of LPR lines once we arrived back in USA

Other than that, it was smooth trip

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Did anyone travel right after getting NOA before biometrics appointment letter arrive and missed the biometrics appointment when coming back from vacation?

I am wondering the same thing. We are sending off my husbands 751 on January 22. He wants to travel and see his family in Colombia on Feb 9. Wondering how long it takes to receive bio appointment from CSC...

We will have to wait or cancel our trip. Without Biometrics, we are unable to do early walk-in, unable to reschedule. Missing biometrics is too risky.

Looks like there is nothing we can do but wait.

I'll just either book a last minute ticket if my biometrics arrive, or I guess I'll skip the trip.

Alternately, if you have someone who can open your mail while you are away, they can respond to the notice with a reschedule request (assuming the notice arrives while you are gone). To reschedule, you just need to check a box on the Biometrics appt notice and return it to the central office, no signature, nothing else required. When the office receives your request, they schedule you for the next available appt (usually about a month later) and send you another notice. If you are still out of the country then, you check the box again, send it back, and repeat the process. Seems like cancelling your travel plans altogether is a bit harsh.

Yeah there is no one that we know and trust with that. Uscis said there's nothing we can do without the biometrics letter. So yeah gonna cancel my trip rather than risking it and high chances of getting denial if I didn't attend the asc. Sadly my passport expires in March (alternatively I will have to spend the same amount of money with hotel and flight to the embassy in other states as it requires me to renew in person) and my husband only has Feb for 2018 vacation since his annual leaves going to reset next mth. Owell..I just pray hard that it will arrive by Jan

OH MY GOD you are so lucky!!!!!!!

So my USC spouse called USCIS, to enquire on my biometrics explaining that we have to travel and might not be able to get our biometrics letter before we leave.

Unfortunately, there is nothing much we can do, but to wait for the letter to come. And we have reconfirmed with USCIS, if you miss biometrics without rescheduling, IT IS A DENIAL unlike some other posts and other forums I searched through saying you can just explain or reschedule/walk-in.

The officer said we have only two options:

1. Wait for biometrics appointment letter, reschedule it, if doesn't come, cancel trip

2. Risk it, go travel, if you're lucky enough, your appointment date might be after your trip, and reschedule it. ORRRRRR DENIAL if its within your vacation days.

SO YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH IM DEFINITELY GOING TO WAIT OR CANCEL :(

Note to all travelers

Upon return to US still pick a Citizen/ Green Card line but go straight to assistant there and tell them you have an extension letter. You'll be redirected to a special line for additional checking, which is much shorter then the super long line for US Visitors. And don't even bother checking in at the kiosk, its a total waist of time, it will read your green card as expired.

Also make sure to fill up US Immigration Form that they give you on the plane.

Just got back from Russia, it took me 20 min to go through US custom this way. Last time I didn't pick the right lane and didn't have that Form filled.. ugh.. lost so much time and position in line.. took me over 1h to go through..

Canceling trip is the worst... like can we catch a break ;/ we are all stressed enough over this lol

how long were you planning to go for? they usually mail a notice approx 2 weeks before actual appointment. Look at the ppl timelines, Its pretty much the same for everyone. So if you don't receive your letter before your trip it will be safe to think that you can leave for at least 1 week and be back by the time of your appointment if your letter was mailed on your departure day. Its better then nothing .. just something to think about =)

3-4 weeks, it takes me 28 hours to fly back home haha! And with timezone, it will be 24 hours forward when I arrive my home. So technically 4 days will be wasted for flights.

I'll just wait :(

There have been quite a few posts recently regarding traveling on an expired GC with the one year extension letter.

Page 38 of this document provides some reassurance:

https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Carrier Information Guide- English.pdf

It also makes clear that the 12 month extension is from the card expiry date, not the receipt date of the I-797.

Hi guys, Thank you for this information. It actually answered my question about expiration date. I filed my I-751 and I was extended for 1 year. It's been my 6 months this January from the date of expiration. And I didn't receive any answer yet. I'd like when is the right time to schedule info pass appointment and if incase I need to get a stamp on my passport. I'd like to clarify, do I use my foreign passport from my country, since I don't have a US passport yet if course. I just wanna make sure. Thank you so much for all your help. God bless you all.

Hi everyone,

I just got back to the States from Turkey with my extension letter and expired green card. The Process in Turkey during check-in and boarding was so smooth, they knew about the extension letter. I didn't need to explain anything.

Here, at JFK, I was taken to the secondary inspection office, and it took me 5 minutes to leave that office. I wasn't asked anything beyond the length of my trip.
