Intent Letter

 I am Russian-American, my parents are from Russia but I was born in the USA and I am an American citizen by birth. I also speak fluent Russian, so me and my fiancé speak in Russian to each other. Can her intent letter be in English?

Her letter has to either be written in English or be accompanied by an English translation (if her English is not good enough?)

Oh, well, she was going to use a like a sample English letter of intent and just fill in the information with information pertaining to us. She does not speak English. Is it still okay if her letter of intent is in English?

Also, do we each need a letter of intent with both of our signatures on each letter? Or, do I need one letter of intent with both of our signatures?

With your I-129F petition, you will submit 2 letters of intent to marry.  One from you the petitioner and one from your foreign fiance.

At your fiance's interview, many months from when you initially submit your I-129F petition, you will provide her another letter of intent to marry dated with-in 30 days of her interview.

Should anyone ever sign a document they can't read? In this scenario, I would opt to have the letter translated, or at least include a statement that you (or someone fluent in both languages) have translated and explained the statement to her before she signed it.

Okay, so have it written in English, but at least make a statement that it was explained and translated for her?

Yes, exactly. You'll have to include a statement that you are fluent in both languages.

Or, could it be written in English, but noted at the bottom that it was explained to her in Russian (by me), with me stating that I am fluent in both languages?

Hi!  You will need to provide one letter, from each of you, with your own signatures.  Also, right before your interview, you will both need to do another letter of intent, for each of you, with a new date and new signatures (the words can be the same).  If you can have her do one in English, that would be best because then you would need to have the letter of intent that she wrote in Russian, translated anyways.  Good luck from here on out!

Oh, so even though she doesn't speak English well, her letter of intent can be in English?
