Ouch...take it easy please....are there long delays on the Alberta medical plan?

Nah just takes time to see if less invasive things work or not. Facet injections are steroidal injections into the spinal nerve facets (I get them on both sides spread a week apart, if I'm having spasms it feels like a knife slowly and repeatedly edging into the back, since they use 2 or 3 needles in different spots per injection), supposed to last roughly 3 months, but if one isn't getting relief that long, it's a better idea to do the ablation and burn the nerve. Usually takes 1-3 years for the nerve to grow back, so longer relief. Of course, if that doesn't work either.. then the more invasive surgery is required. Since surgery is always a lot more invasive and riskier than poking someone with a needle, it usually is a last resort. If there was something more serious than just pain probably would have skipped right to surgery.

I tell ya Jacques...you are all over the footwear gossip department...but did you know that he is related to Olympia Dukakis?  ( well kindof)

Chaffetz's father was Jewish, and his paternal grandfather Maxwell (Max) Chaffetz (1909–1986), the son of immigrants from Russia, became an FBI Special Agent.[14] Chaffetz's father's first wife was Kitty Dukakis (née Dickson), who later married Michael Dukakis, future Massachusetts Governor and 1988 Democratic presidential nominee.

It's interesting because I had fractures in my L5/S1 that I never knew I had until I put on some 20 pounds and did the bulk of the work moving us downtown. Cranked my back, and upon having an MRI done they realized this was an old injury that was aggravated. While I don't think surgery is necessary yet, we're trying facet injections and of course a few weeks on a keto diet and took it off quickly, but the damage might already be done.. scheduled for medial branch block test for nerve ablation (burning the spinal nerve to remove the lower back pain caused by fracture), and if that doesn't work.. surgery.

I'd recommend surgery. My sister had damaged her back so bad and went through numerous injections and nerve blocks to keep it at bay. She started losing all feeling in the lower half of her body and no one could really figure it out. The chief of surgery at the hospital took one look at the MRI, told her she was suffering from CES (a spinal condition brought on by injury which eventually leads to paralysis) and did immediate surgery. Tiny incision but he did not have a lot of hope she'd have returning sensation after waiting so long. PT was important and it took a year but she has full sensation now. My FiL is dealing with something similar, and on the NHS... his treatment is significantly delayed. He's been through most of the stuff you describe, with little success.

Ouch. In my case the cause is rather clear.. severe arthritis and compression fracture. Some of the symptoms you described mirror sciatica.. I was nearly given a nerve block (almost identical to an epidural women tend to get when in labor) for this mistakenly (I don't have numbness or shooting pains from the back and below to the legs) but it sounds like the case with your sister might be a bit worse than sciatica. I hope that gets resolved. :(

Many of us need (and long) to reincarnated as invertebrates, sigh man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
