My grandparents immigrated from there and I have many relatives in Minsk and in the countryside. I've always enjoyed my many visits there, but never had to experience the dark side of politics there. My older relatives that are pensioners love Lukashenko and my wife likes him too. Many younger people and the few private business owners I know there do not like him or care for his policies (to put it mildly). I have seen Belarusians from the same family divided as pro and anti Lukashenko. As for me, I enjoy my trips to Belarus and don't get involved in their politics. I am 50% Belarusian by blood, but I'm 100% American by birth and upbringing. I don't have any horses running in this race. I'm sure the Belarusians will sort it out themselves.

Here are some links if anyone wishes to learn about Belarus.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
