Hi all,

I am wanting to save time and start getting my police checks and vaccination records sorted. I have lived abroad so am having to get police checks from a  couple of different countries. Does anyone know whether the London Embassy wants these within a specific timeframe? In other words... do these documents expire? If I request them will they still be valid in a couple of months?

Thank you!

The UK police certificate will have an expiry date on it - it's either 12 months or 6 months from issue, I forget - so as long as it's still in date, it's fine. Same'll go for other countries. If they're less than 6 months old by the time if your interview, you should be golden.

Great! That's really helpful, thanks. Do you know if the same applies to the vaccination records?

Yeah, your records, especially UK ones, are likely to be pretty lo-fi, anyway. Just get a copy of them and don't worry about it past that. Oh, but if you're missing any - it'll be cheaper to get them done with the GP rather than at the medical.

Thanks again! That makes sense. Is there a concise list of the vaccines that I should make sure I have?

Same as the list for K1 that you can see in this post (except that K1s can choose to wait and do theirs later, married folks have to do it all before they get their visa):

Read your document requirements straight from London. https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/required-documents/

It explains police certificates if you scroll down. Foreign and UK.

Vaccines basically boil down to Td/Tdap, MMR, and flu shot ONLY Oct-Mar. Most people will have had the relevant ones in childhood, but Tetanus needs to be in the last 10 years so a good number of ppl require a booster.

ACRO police cert is good for 12 months, go ahead and get it now to have it ready as if you wind up needing to request a SAR (if your cert comes back 'No Live Trace', that takes another 40 working days.

I am the USC, my husband is a UKC. IR-1 via DCF London.

Thanks @aless02! What is a SAR? Or "no live trace"?

If the police certificate says "No Live Trace", it generally means spent convictions or cautions. US system is different and since they require details of ALL police history (including spent and cautions), they ask all people with No Live Trace to also ask for a SAR (Subject Access Record) from the police, which will detail every tiny little thing. This takes 40 working days to obtain, so it's generally recommended for people to get their police certificate ASAP because if they need to then request a SAR, that is quite a bit of waiting.

If you are confident in no police history, then you have nothing to worry about :-). "No Trace" is what you want your police cert to come back with!

Good luck, you're only a week behind us filing at London, and looks you're immigrating to Colorado as well?! :-D

EDIT: Here's the relevant bit from the Embassy website: https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/required-documents/

If your UK police certificate indicates “No Live Trace,”  or “Further  Information  Stepped Down” you are required to provide complete details of the offense(s) and disposition. If you do not recall the specific details, consider obtaining a Subject Access Report so that you can provide the Consular Officer with accurate information on the day of your interview. To obtain a Subject Access Report, visit http://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx.

@aless02 ah! Ok! That makes sense. I should have no problem, then, but as it is valid for 12 months I may just go ahead and get on with it. Anything that I can be doing in the meantime to stop myself from going crazy!

Yes, Colorado. Can't wait! What date, realistically, are you hoping to be out there? I am guessing our NOA2 will be mid-June sometime...?

I know that feeling!! We are trying to move as fast as possible as my dad is ill and we are moving to support my sister who is looking after him (well lots of other reasons, but that was the catalyst). I am praying for the NOA2 to come early June, but what will be will be! We'll be in the Denver metro area. My husband is very excited to live close to the mountains and away from all the rain & humidity of the UK, haha!

In a dream world, we'll hope be there by August (as husband will have to give 1 months' notice at work from the day he gets approved) but we're also realistic enough with how timelines can change or get set back, so really it's fingers crossed and try to move as quickly as possible.

August would be good! I know what you mean about trying not to get our hopes up and being realistic... It's hard not to though, now that this whole process has started! I'll keep an eye on your timeline as a guideline to mine :) Please keep me updated if anything comes up!
