That makes so much sense. I guess I was just thrown off by them saying they want answers for everything! Thank you!!!

No problem! I remember feeling the same way, just wanting to make sure I did everything exactly right on the forms and reading into all the possible meanings of the instructions. :-)  Good luck with your journey!

12/18/2015- NOA 1

1/29/2016- NOA 2

2/18/2016- Letter from NVC saying they're forwarding to Guangzhou

3/4/2016- Received P3, returned it about a week later

3/22/2016- P4 email

5/12/16- Interview. Approved!

5/16/16- After a few days saying administrative processing, CEAC now says issued!

Additional snafu: my fiancé came over on his visa, but just a month later (and the day before we were going to get married) he had an emergency that necessitated him returning to China.  I contacted the Guangzhou consulate via their email system, provided the requested documents/proof, and he was granted a second interview for "reissuance."  He had to re-do the medical, redo the interview (bringing yet another copy of all of the things he had to bring the first time) and we were approved again!  He received what looked like a new visa in his passport, but the original 90 day countdown for marriage was still ticking.  He came back to the US and we got married right away!

8/22/16- Married!

no news... case status on website still says "fingerprint fee received..."

So, if you answer no to having any children, then you shouldn't be filling out the questions about said children.  The form says "If you answered yes to question x, then provide responses to y-z."

My understanding would be that for any primary questions, you should answer or write None or N/A as appropriate, but for grouped questions where you have already responded that this category doesn't apply to you, then I would leave those questions blank.  You're only supposed to respond to those "If you answered yes..."

Pretty much! Keep in mind I did the old i-129f it's quite a bit different now. Just read the instructions very carefully.

Do we always put "N/A", if otherwise told to put "None"? That is what the updated instructions say. Thanks!

Yeah it says to answer everything completely, with an N/A or none if you need to, unless otherwise directed. I feel like that last part leaves so much room for confusion, at least for me. I feel like they are saying unless we tell you to respond if you put yes, you need to put something in the blank, but for grouped answers where they say otherwise, the group can be left blank if you've clarified your answer in the first part.

This is what I am thinking as well. We might be looking into it too much! LOL

The most updated instructions I see are dated 4/10/17, and they say:

"If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been married and the question asks “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed."

So if it's asking for a response other than a number, put N/A and if it's asking for a number, put none, unless that specific question tells you to do otherwise.

Right! And if asking about a checkbox that doesn't pertain to you, you just leave it blank? For example, if we say no to having any children, when it later has a check box for, "Does this child live with your beneficiary?", do we say no or just leave it?

On the question about children, after it asks if there are any, it says "If you answered "Yes" to Item Number 39., provide the following information about each child."

Therefore, I would go ahead and leave those boxes blank, because you are only being instructed to fill them out if you answered "yes," which you did not.

Since you did not answer yes, you are not supposed to provide any more answers to those questions about a child.

I agree that the instructions are confusing when you're really trying to think everything through and not make any mistakes--and I agree with the advice not to overthink it.

Right! I have another question. Sorry for being so annoying but I really appreciate your help and everybody else's help, for that matter! I am filing for K-1, so what do I do with question 5? I attached a snapshot of what I mean. Thanks!

I would leave the check boxes for #5 blank, because it's another "If" question.  I would consider any "if" question to be a circumstance of being "directed otherwise" (like how the instruction sheet that says to write N/A or none unless directed otherwise).  You should answer every question, but when you come to an "if" question and that "if" does not apply to you, then you are not responsible for that question.

For the one part that says, Physical Address Abroad, do you just simple fill out the beneficiary's address again? And also, for the part where it asks for a daytime telephone number under where beneficiary intends to live in America,, do I put her number or my number? Because, she does not have an American number.

I think they want the number of the place they will live. I'm thinking they want the ability to be able to call and see if it's a real place or something. And yeah I think you just fill out the address again. That's what I did!

Yeah, I would give your phone number if they will be living with you.  I guess that question about the phone number for the place made more sense in the days of landlines haha.  For the physical address, if they receive mail where they live, then this will be the same as their mailing address.  Some people have PO boxes where they receive their mail, so in this case, their physical address would be different from the mailing address.

Do you think we should leave the alien registration numbers blank if we don't have one?
