Hey guys, I have a question about the part where it says, "If your native alphabet is in other than Roman letters, write your name in your native alphabet below:" Well, to explain to you guys, I was born in America and I am an American citizen but I am actually Russian-American (my parents are immigrants from Russia). I can actually write my name in Cyrillic script, so, should I write my name in Cyrillic script? I know it might be a silly question, but I am just trying to make sure I am doing everything correctly. Thanks guys!

I think you should write your name using the English alphabet considering you were born here so even though the US doesn't have an official language, English is predominant, so Russian would essentially be a second language for you.

That being said, I don't think it really matters, but it is unnecessary, and could be confusing to a government bureaucrat working through your application.

Good Luck!

So, you think, even though I can write my name in Russian Cyrillic (because I am Russian-American), I should just write "N/A"?

Just use the name on your birth certificate unless you have legally changed it.

Towards the bottom of the form, it says, "If your native alphabet is in other than Roman letters, write your name in your native alphabet below:", so I was just wondering whether I would write my name in Cyrillic there or just leave it as "N/A". even though, technically, I can write my full name in Russian Cyrillic.

will you be submitting any documents that have your name in Cyrillic script?

if so, I'd include it (even though it's not necessary)

if not, n/a it is.

It's cool that you can write your name in Russian Cyrillic! Technically, I could write my name in Mandarin, but since it's not that way on my birth certificate, I'm not going to. Stick with the name on your birth certificate unless you have legally changed it. Are there any documents you will be submitting in Russian Cyrllic?

My name is different than the one on my birth certificate.

Oh, ok. If you have legal documents in the new name, submit those as well if you want. You could even attach a letter explaining  a the new namds. However, I think that legally you are fine using the name on your birth certificate or whatever it has been legally changed to.

So basically, you are telling me I don't have to write my name in Russian Cyrillic at the bottom part of this form?

I don't understand anymore.

1) did you legally change your name?

YES: include documents to evidence that name change. Write name on birth certificate at 'other names used', use new official name. Write your new name in Cyrillic script on the bottom.

NO:

2) is this other name something that's used on legal documents or documents included in the package?

YES: put under 'other names used'. Write it in Cyrillic script at the bottom.

No, only my mom, my grandma, and my sweetheart call me this but I never write it out even though I know how:  you can put it under 'other names used', but not necessary. Again, you can put that name in Cyrillic script to show off, but you don't have to.

I can write my name in Greek letters - but why would I?

Keep in mind why they ask this: they will be doing background checks, and will have to check for you under all names used in writing. I doubt they're going to write to your grandmother who will then write back in Russian and use your name in Cyrillic script.

I understand what you are saying. Listen, I did not mean to upset you or anybody. I just wanted some advice. All I am saying is that my current name, is indeed, able to be written in Cyrillic script, and all I was wondering, is if I should write it in Cyrillic script at the bottom of the form, since my name is a Russian name. For example, if my name was Viktor Ivanov, should I also write it as Виктор Иванов, in the spot where it asks for your name in another alphabet. Sorry for the confusion, thanks,

No worries, I'm not upset. Just trying to be clear...

Good luck!

Thank you! So, you are saying, I can leave it as "N/A" or I can also write it out in Cyrillic, right?
