Hi,

Can someone who had their interview in Montreal Canada recently tell me exactly what the petitioner needs for the fiancé to take with them for the interview? I'm trying to gather everything together for him for his interview on the 3rd

Thank You

My interview is also on the 3rd. I am taking the following things from my US fiancé:

- photocopy of passport (evidence of status in the states)

- mortgage statement (proof of domicile)

- photocopy of drivers licence (proof of domicile)

- intent to marry statement

- Evidence of support (Form I-something... sorry can't remember number)

- copy of recent tax return (to support above form)

- copy of W-2 (to support above form)

On top of this, I have all the other forms etc. that I gathered myself.

Good luck!!

The affidavit of support needed for the embassy interview is I134.

You can also submit an IRS transcript from the petitioner in lieu of the tax forms and w2. (Transcripts can be ordered and printed online from the IRS website.

A state drivers license can be used for proof of domicile as well. (I had a copy of his license and a letter from his employer confirming that he worked there - also used for the i134 bc he didn't have 6 months worth of pay stubs)

It it is prudent to carry evidence of your relationship as well.  I had pictures of us, a copy of the bridal shower invitation that my family had for me, copies of text messages sent to each other etc., though I was NOT asked for any of that.

Follow the list on packet 4 closely (add the extras I included above) and you will be fine.

The Embassy will give you instructions with your number that day on how to organize all the documents to ensure smooth and quick processing at the first window.

And of course, the medical packet, unopened.

They have a booth there for passport style photos, if you forget, but you can obtain those beforehand (pretty sure that's on the packet 4 list.)

if you're from out of town (Montreal was a 7 hour drive for me) try and book at the Courtyard by Marriott.  It's a block away from the Embassy!

Also remember to relax.  While this seems like the most intimidating part of the process, it's really not scary, more of a formality - a brief way for them to ensure you are who you say you are.  It will be a relatively quick and painless experience and then you'll be on your way to starting your life with your soon-to-be spouse.  Get excited 😁😁

Good luck and safe travels!

The others have already listed what the packet 4 requires, I'd just like to note some off points that were relavent in my experience as well. First of all, a lot of what they asked me for didn't get used, but obviously it's important to have it available for them anyway.

Up until Packet 4, everything Montreal told me was that I needed a "birth certificate". It wasn't until Packet 4 that they specified LONG FORM and that was a very expensive and panicked rush for me over the recent Easter Weekend that I wish I had known about before hand (again, probably late for you/your fiance but still relevant if anyone reads this forum later).

Another thing they never asked for but I had seen mentioned in previous VJ posts was evidence of domicile for where you'll be moving upon entry.

Additionally, I made sure I had the supporting documents for the I134 forum (banking, employment, and tax return), though they only took the 1040 pages. I also had a co-sponsor for my application who was definitely about 95% of my financial dependability. They asked for my co-sponsor's ID and I gave them a driver's license. They asked me if I had a birth certificate, passport, or anything labelling citizenship/nationality. I didn't, and they took the license instead. But I see why they would prefer the alternative.

And just to re-iterate the packet 4 guidelines, they word for word told me the following:

-              (2) Passport size photos no older than 6 months and with a plain white background (if you wear eyeglasses, please remove them when you have your photo taken).

-              Copy of the first page (biopage) of your Passport.

-              Original & copy of your Long Form Birth Certificate.

-              Original Canada Police Certificate (Canadian Police Certificates have a validity of 12 months from the date they were issued) and Police Certificate from countries where you resided for more than 12 months.

-              Original I-134 Form along with 2015 1040 Form from your Sponsor (please make sure that you bring the original signed form, neither copies nor scanned copies will be accepted).

-              Original Letter of Intent to Marry from your Fiance(e) (only letters that have been signed within 30 days will be accepted,  please make sure that you bring the original signed letter, neither copies nor scanned copies will be

                accepted).

-              Original & copy of Divorce Certificate if you have had a previous marriage.

-              Medical Exams from our Panel Physician.

If you're planning on going to the consulate with him, don't forget your passport!

We just had our k-1 interview.  The employee at the window said, "Oh wow!  You brought the ENTIRE I-134 form!"  We were surprised at this comment, since the Packet 3 checklist says to bring the I-134 form with supporting documents.  We brought everything (including proof of domicile) just to be safe, but I think she only took the I-134 and my tax returns.

The photocopy of the beneficiary's passport has to be in color.
