Asking USPS to hold Green Card

My wife and I intend to travel a couple of days after our interview to her home state to visit my in-laws. Therefore, we won't be home for the 3-4 weeks after the interview. I know that, given most timelines here, this will most likely mean that I will receive the green card approval while away, and that USCIS will probably send it during our trip. Now, I've used USPS's hold mail service before during times I've been away. If I use this service again, will USPS hold the green card envelope as well while I am away?

I don't want to submit a change of address with USCIS, since we're not really changing our permanent address (we'll just be at her parents' for a couple of weeks). Thanks in advance!

Every time I used the hold mail service, I received all the mail I expected.  Since the GC would come first class (not requiring a return receipt or signature) I don't think you will have any issues assuming nothing is lost.

Good Luck!

Thanks! I didn't know that the GC didn't have "return service requested" envelope. I assumed so because my EAD came like that. Good to know. I'll have some more peace of mind.

USPS will hold onto the green card.

When my friend's wife immigrated to the US earlier this year, they went on a trip to see his family.  He had a mail hold and USPS kept his wife's green card.  He was pretty smart, he registered with USPS and gets notices of anything with a tracking number sent to his home.  While out of state, he was fully aware when USPS received the green card since it comes with a tracking number.

Gotcha! Thanks for the reply! I imagined this would be the case, but having put such a huge effort into this, and given that there's so much at stake, I didn't want to risk it. Good to know it's a safe bet. Thank you for the peace of mind.

Yup! They did. I had no problems whatsoever. Just make sure that when you go pick up your mail you go with someone who has an ID with your address (as always with USPS hold requests), and you will be golden!
