Applying for I-130 while visiting the US

So I am currently in the US, and my wife and I were thinking of filling my I-130 while I am here so we can get the process going. We are NOT applying for AOS. But just filling for the I-130 while I am visiting the US and I will be returning back to Canada.

 

Has anyone done that? and is it okay?

Will they wait and only start processing it when I leave the US, or will they start the process from the time they recive it. My wife and I are mention in a cover letter what my expected date to leave the US is on my current trip to visit her.

They will start processing it once they receive and accept it into their system.

This was our case. I left the US about a month after we filled out I-130. They start processing right away. I did included a copy of my passport stamp and the returning flight confirmation page. I suggest you file ASAP as the whole process takes at least a year. Good luck!
