I'm petitioning for the visa for my fiancée who lives in Honduras. And I'm filling out paperwork, that's the stage I'm in. Nothing has been sent in yet. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before sending everything in.

For the K-1 visa stage (which is after petition I-129F is approved) you will need to fill out I-134 as a sponsor and provide supporting documents with it, such as the last three years' tax transcripts, employment letter and several recent pay stubs. You will have to mail I-134 to your fiancee with a wet signature, the other documents can be copies.

While you are mailing stuff, you should aslo include a letter of intent to marry with a wet signature as well. You can find sample forms above, by clicking the Guides link.

You don't need the i134 with the initial petition, only at the interview.

 

You, the petitioner, will always be the primary sponsor. You will have to fill in one i134 + provide supporting docs. If you do not meet the sponsorship requirement, you can additionally supply add a i134 + docs from a joint sponsor. This sponsor must be a citizen or legal resident of the US, currently living in the US.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Ok so with many thanks to you guys and a couple of other sources I'm beginning to understand the i-134 much more. I now have some more refined questions to ask with it. 

 

I know that I will have to fill one out, and I will have to have an additional sponsor. Do I need to provide a birth certificate with them to prove they are a legal US citizen? 

 

I also know that supporting documents can be pay stubs and tax records. Do I have to provide both, or will just the tax records cover it? Because I'm a contract employee so I may have 3 or 4 or even more different pay stubs for just one month. I do have all my tax records for the past three years, though. 

 

Can I send the I-134 with the initial petition, or is it required that I wait? Because I have everything ready to mail to the USCIS, as well as copies of everything to send to my fiancé, and even copies to keep here for myself. It seems like it would be better to me to send everything at once.

 

What if my employment status changes during the process? Would I have to refile the I-134?

 

Thank you guys so much! I'm really starting to understand it more, I think the above questions are all I need.

Firstly. You do NOT send the i134 with the initial petition. It is ONLY required at the interview. Your employment/income/financial status at the time of interview is therefore what matters, and the form and any evidence will only be overlooked if it goes in the initial package. You'll need to re-fill the form and supply more recent evidence at the time of interview regardless.

 

Different consulates request/prefer different types of evidence. Most commonly, the most recent tax transcript and/or a letter of employment + paystubs is requested. Check with others going through the process in your beneficiary's country.

 

The sponsor of a i134 does not need to be a USC, only to be legally residing inside the US. 

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

@A'n'L pretty much covered it all. I just wanted to add one thing to the last part. You need to attach documentation showing the status of the person signing the I-134, such as a birth certificate, passport, naturalization certificate or greencard as one of the supporting documents.
