Initially, we were going to do a K1 visa app but, have decided to get married. Did anyone here get married in Italy? If so, can you please confirm whether or not an Atto Notario can be obtained at a US consulate in Italy? I'm very confused by those process.

Thanks,

Carissa

I see no reason why not. It seems like that is the protocol for which you have to follow when you are marrying in Italy.

Are you going to be married in a Church? Perhaps it is worth contacting the Priest/Vicar/Whoever would be doing it, because they may be able to provide more information.

When I got married in the UK to my wife I had to get a "marriage license" as a foreigner (In the UK they don't "Read the bans" if only 1 person is from the UK....seems like they do in Italy). Seems somewhat similar, though since I was living in the US I applied from abroad.

Good luck!

Hi, I got married in Italy, but I got the Atto Notorio here in the states at my local Italian consulate. Then, a few months before the wedding I went to Italy and we knocked out all the additional consulate appointments, announcements, and paperwork necessary for the wedding process. So when I went back for the wedding, all we needed was to have witnesses (wedding guests) sign forms at the town hall.

Hope that helps!
