A printed tax 1040 or any other tax form only shows you have filed, it doesn't indicate the IRS accepted and processed your taxes. You can add in the 1040 print outs as an additional thing with W2 forms and recent pay stubs, but the best thing is a return transcript from the IRS site. Just putting this out there, I could not for the life of my figure exactly how to instantly print my transcripts. I ended up requesting them by mail and they showed up a week later.

Account transcripts are for people who owed a big amount after filing or got audited/adjusted and need to show proof they are in the clear with IRS debts, you just want a good old return transcript :)

I'm trying to print my co sponsors Tax Transcripts on the IRS website and there are 4 different options for the previous years.

1: Return Transcripts

2: Record of Account Transcripts

3: Account transcripts

4: Wage and Income Transcripts

I'm not sure which ones I need to print, I'd imagine it's the 4th one though?

I print a Wage and tax statement and it's rather hard to read, as some of the numbers are replaced with letters. For example one of them says 'A,AN2.RR'. If I send these to my fiance, will the consulate and whoever else see's it be able to read this? Or do I have to go about getting these a different way.

Funny, I just printed these out for our ROC. It is the first one. The issue was 2016 Transcripts were not available, so we got the Record of Account Transcripts for 2016, then added the Accountants Filing Information.

Whenever I tried, there was not even an option listed for get online(it has been a while)....maybe it is only available during certain times of the year, or maybe it is new? Either way, nothing beats instant :)

Instead of having the IRS send them to you, you can also print them yourself or save a copy for your records saving valuable time.

But I agree.  Very easy to go to www.irs.gov and do it yourself.

Yea, I already told them to mail them a few days ago, I don't have a credit card, car loan (my last used car sitting stateside I saved for an bought with cash), and no mortgage stuff. I've got some student loans and a debit card, so no way to really validate my identity on the IRS website to create an account as I never got around to it while i was in the states as I never needed to ask them for records in the past. So my work around is mailing it home and having someone scan it in and email me the paperwork, done and done. Meanwhile our landlord is trying to help us from getting cheated by the local offices in regards to getting some other paperwork necessary for our police clearance, and it's taking a few more days than i'd like but better than not getting it and or getting ripped off so I can't complain much. Yay for hunting down paperwork in a 3rd world country without electronic record keeping and government offices that refuse to talk with one another! (just glad im not trying to start a business here).
