My wife's two year green card expired and we have the one year extension letter while she recieves her 10 year greencard.

We want to travel to Canada to visit family in Toronta via Niagra Falls but we're nervous. With the current travel restrictions and cases we hear in the media, we're second guessing our trip. We're afraid the border agent won't let her back into the USA.

Has anyone travel lately with an expired green card and extension letter?  Did you have any issues?

We'd love to hear from you.

My wife took a trip to visit her mother and she had no issues.  Just make sure you take both the letter and the expired 2 year GC.

Safe Travels!

My husband and I traveled to Europe last October (Oct. 2016) with an expired green card and the one year extension letter.  We had no problems returning.  But our attorney advised us prior to leaving that it was risky.  You have the right to travel, but looking back, I don't think I would risk it again.  All it takes is for one immigration officer in the foreign country to not know the rules and you are stuck not being able to board your return flight.

I traveled to Japan last January with my expired green card and the letter for one year extension and my passport. It was no problem at all at that time. I stayed there for 3 weeks. Then I flew back to DC via Minneapolis airport where I went through passport control. The officer was friendly and I was told "Welcome back"

Hope it will be no problem for everyone who will travel abroad during waiting for 10 years green card!!

Oh No, I traveled January 2017 (Jan. 12-26) under Trumps government.  I was also worried about this issue since there were so many confusion around the airports. But in my case,  It was no problem at all as long as I have appropriate documnets with me.

Thank you for the update.  We'll have to see how we feel about it. We just might stay on the US side of Niagara Falls. But the fun side is on Canada.
