Me and my boyfriend is going to file soon as much as possible. We just met once last march and he want to have engage me once my visa approved then he is going quickly plan to go here in philippines to have engagement party then we will come back together to the USA. So my question is it possible for me to approved even i dont have proof that we are engaged? Because I will get interview before he come back again... Or this is strong proof to show that we are real couple? So if I need to wait him to be engage?

Sorry for my english I am not so fluent

I hope someone can asnwer my question

Engagement is a must since its called K1 - which mean Fiance visa. But if you could provide lots of photos together then you should be fine.. we can wait for others to answer there are consulate who might ask how did he propose or how did the engagement happen.

Ahm...you need to be engaged BEFORE he applies for your K1 visa not AFTER.

www.uscis.gov K1 visa or have a look at the K1 fiance visa guides here on this website.

You will find a list with the things your fiance needs to send to USCIS.

USCIS will only approve the petition(they will have a look at all your documents your fiancé sent them) but the consul at the US embassy in your home country will determine if they will issue you the visa or not.

They want to see more than just pictures. I would recommend that you and your boyfriend read through the instructions and to find out what documents you need.

You do need to be engaged, but the "engagement" is just an agreement that you both want to get married to each other. No ring or photos are required. It can be a phone call or even text message, really. Both of you will both need to sign papers showing your intent to marry each other within 90 days of entry into the US. People have been refused visas because the CO did not believe they plan to marry as their letters have stated, but it's unusual and likely due to other information questioning the underlying relationship. In general, the signed letters are sufficient, and Manila is not a particularly tough embassy, so I wouldn't worry about the engagement aspect of things. :)

The engagement party can raise unnecessary questions even if it's after the visa interview. CBP has the ability to search your phones, call others, etc., and evidence of something that may be confused with a wedding reception may cause the officer to believe you are already married and therefore ineligible for the visa. Again, this is uncommon, but people have gotten married after the K-1 was issued and then turned away at POE (including a handful of cases I read from PH). Whether or not you choose to do it is up to you, but just know the potential risks and ensure it could not be misconstrued as a wedding party/reception.

I absolutely agree with Geowrian on this comment! Be VERY careful NOT to call it an engagement party! Filipino family members show up in huge numbers at any family gathering! Meet, party, take photos with the family...BUT IT IS NOT AN ENGAGEMENT/WEDDING Party (...which it isn't!)

There is no "proof" of being engaged as it's not a legal status (whereby there is proof of marriage of divorce as these are legal statuses). Many couples don't "get engaged". We didn't. We just agreed over the course of time that we loved each other very much and we wanted to spend our lives together. No ring. No party. No celebration. We didn't need that. They will not ask for "proof" of engagement. What proof could one provide? Nothing. A ring receipt shows you bought a ring. A selection of pictures from a party proved you had a party and someone had a camera.

You must be free to marry (any previous marriages must have ended lawfully through death of the spouse or divorce) and you must prove you have met physically within the last two years prior to filing. Focus on evidence of a genuine relationship rather than the terminology of "engaged".

agree!!!

we didnt have an engagement party either. there was no ring. no party. no kneeling and no celebration. we just decided to get married and started the K-1 visa process using the pictures and evidences we got.

i actually got my ring after my Point of Entry, couple of days before our wedding.
