driving license required EAD?

We've filed AOS and waiting for it to be done now.

I am preparing for the driving license test. I've read that EAD is necessary for the driver's license.

Is it required to have a EAD to take the written exam test? there is no such requirement on the DMV website.

I am wondering whether anyone has experience before?

Usually you either need EAD or green card to get the driving license. Including the written test. (at least here in KY, I was asked for my green card before the test.)

Here in Florida, he was required to show either I-94 or NOA1 and marriage certificate after filing AOS. I-94 gives your a DL until the I-94 expires. And the NOA gives you a DL for one year. NOA1 is better. Granted, my husband also has his social security since he filed for one the minute he arrived into the states showing the social security office his i-94.

ok, we have the marriage certificate.

but my I94 expired. so i think i should bring as much things as possible to the DMV office then.

Make sure you take your NOA and a bill that shows your wife address to confirm address.

Husband took his drivers exam here in Florida. No need for EAD.  Look at my timeline.

Some states require EAD some are fine with NOA1. You can't compare FL to CA. Check the local requirements.

yes, i did check on the DMV website but no such requirement, so i came here to ask around

Just wanted to get across that any info you get that is not CA specifically means about zip when it comes to licenses, and also for other ppl reading the thread in the future, so it doesn't get confusing

 

I'm sure there is CA specific info to find already here on VJ though...

They will only give you a temporary DL if you have a valid I-94 until it expires. However, California does take EAD's to issue you a drivers license so you will have to wait for either the EAD or your green card. California only accepts I-797c when it are approved petitions. It does also say so on the website;

It does also mention employment authorization cards.
