I have a Fiance from Brazil who will soon be here on a K1 Fiance Visa. She has worked since age 13 in Brazil and will soon quit her job to be with me here in America. She would like to draw her Brazilian Social Security here in America, but the Brazil bank will not let her open a new account here in America so that she can have her money here. Is there a way for her to access her money from here in America, even though her Social Security will still be in a bank in Brazil? We know we cannot open the new account here, but if we can have access to her money from here, that will help so much. Any help anyone can give on this topic will be greatly appreciated, for it is driving us crazy.

A couple of suggestions...

A) Keep the account in Brazil,  make sure to have ONLINE access to the account while she is in Brazil... Use that online access to initiate wire transfer periodically to your / her USA account. Perhaps you would want to sign-up for a VPN so as to make the IP address she uses to access the Brazil online account be a Brazil based IP but you can check access before she arrives.

-

B)  A above is the most expensive way to go.. although the fastest way to move the money.   An alternative may be to move the money via Paypal and again she can set  that up before she leaves.    She can transfer the money to Pay Pal and then transfer it from Pay Pal to an account she can access from the USA.

C)  Have her get an ATM card for her Bank in Brazil.  She should then be able to withdraw the cash in USA funds.

-

Perhaps there are complications with some of the above that you haven't mentioned or something unique about Brazil that I'm not aware of in which case please do post further so that others may make more meaningful suggestions.

What do you mean when you say "She would like to draw her Brazilian Social Security here in America" I'm from Brazil and we do not have SSN like US citizens.

"but the Brazil bank will not let her open a new account here in America so that she can have her money here" - > My knowledge, is that as long as she moved to US legal with SSN, you can help her open a account with a Bank in America.

Have you tried to use TransferWise for transfering money between BR and US?

Thanks JE 57 and TimeI$Money for your reply back. I truly appreciate your time. JE 57, I have finally figured out that we may have to keep the account in Brazil, but have access to it from here. She asked the Brazil bank authorities about moving her money here and receiving it here on a monthly basis. They told her they will not do that. So to access the money from here may be the best option. One thing I did not consider was a VPN and like you suggested, that is a very good idea. Thanks a lot JE 57!

Timei$ Money, I believe the Social Security is known by a different name there and it is probably done different. She has worked hard all her life and does not want to lose what she earned. I understand her logic and I want to do what I can to help. I read your reply and looked into the TransferWise. It seems like a viable option to move money. With the VPN that JE 57 suggested and the TransferWise, we may be able to make something work. I do plan to file for her a SSN when we are married and to put her on my accounts too. Thanks guys!!!!
