Wedding planning is now underway, and unfortunately I've been doing much of it on my own until my fiance can get here.

I did have some questions for the Peruvians......what is a typical wedding in Peru like? Any special customs?

I would like to surprise Lucia by including any special customs if there are any.

Hi Mercury Road.....

I got married almost 2 years ago in Peru, big wedding- and my husband's family went to Peru they had a great time. The weddings are very similar to the weddings in the States.

We didn't wear any custom or anything like that but we had a folkloric group (peruvian) that played some religious music at the church, they played some typical instruments as the "quena, charango, guitarra, bombo, cajon" , was awesome and everybody loved it (L) .

For the reception we had a lot of "Pisco Sour", "Algarrobina" both peruvian drinks that I'm sure you love. The wedding gifts for all our guests were CD'S that we prepared with music in spanish and english, I included some peruvian singers in the list. And of course we played alot of peruvian music as "festejo" that everybody love in my country.

Well I you need more advices just let me know...

Hugs

Vi ;)

There's not difference between the way We (peruvians) celebrate a wedding and an American wedding,

I'm pretty sure a peruvian women would love to have a catholic wedding, in a church whit a beatiful dress and her family and some friends and You can include music, food and drink from Peru as Vi adviced you.

veroka and vi - thanks!

Our wedding is going to be here in the States.....I finally got the reception hall, photographer, and DJ booked. Looks like the date will be Sept 9th. Lu is trying to purchase her wedding dress in Peru and bring it here. I'm really hoping some of her friends and family will be able to be here. We also plan to travel back to Peru sometime after the wedding to celebrate there as well.

Lu loves the Peruvian folk music so we will definately include that as well.

What about some of the traditions like we have here:

1. Father/daughter dance

2. Best Man/Maid of honor

3. Toss the bouquet

4. Toss the garter belt

5. Cutting of the cake

6. Toast by the Best Man and Maid of Honor

Are there any special dances or songs that are usually done?

Who sits at the head table?

Thanks!

Hi..

I forgot to tell you that the only big difference that I saw between the weddings in Peru and the wedding in the States are the important role that the bridemaids and groomen play. In latin weddings the father stays next to the bride during the ceremony at the church, in my case we decided to have my Maid of Honor next to me and Sil had his cousin/best friend next to him (you can see that in one of my pictures).

After the ceremony we went directly to the photo session, and after that the reception, you can choose the song you want to dance, In our case we like "I love you" from Marc Anthony. We didn't dance with all the family (to long) and we didn't sit with our parents, we had one table just for my close family (parents, grandaparents) and one for his family from the States. Our table was in the center -head table.

We follow the traditions :

*Toss the bouquet

* Toss the garter belt

* Cutting of the cake

+ Toast by my dad and his dad (lots of tears :crying: )

Are you planning the wedding by yourself??? Wow!!!! here we needed a wedding planner to help us. I'm sorry for being so curious but why don't you get married in Peru??? I know you can save alot of money (weddings in the States are too expensive).. Where are you planning to go for your Honey Moon?>??

Saludos

Yep, wedding planning is by myself. It's really difficult because I am planning that, getting things ready for Lu when she gets here, planning for the civil ceremony (her parents are going to stay with us), studying, and remodelling my bathroom....oh yeah....and I work too :) Lu doesn't understand why I'm stressed out hahahaha.

I also found out about the bridemaids/groomsmen thing so I was wondering what else might be different.

We decided to get married in the U.S. because her parents and little sister live here. We would like to have a party back in Peru at some point, but from what Lu said....a reception there could cost $20 per person as well which is about what it would cost here. We might do some other type of party instead. We're still kicking that one around because our money is focused on the U.S. wedding right now.....that and tickets to Arequipa usually run me about $1,100.

Honeymoon....not sure yet. I have 100k miles on United, so that opens up some opportunities. We were thinking of a South America tour, Europe tour, or going to someplace like Egypt or Ireland (places we have both wanted to visit). I would love to go to Spain also and watch some maringue.

When is Lu coming to the States???? I imagine that you are super excited about that, congrats!!!! We are you going to live???? (state) and I find really cool that her family lives here 'cause you cant' imagine how difficult is to be far from parents and friends.

I found out that prices for the reception are unbelievable, about $120 per person!!!!!, before my wedding I checked alot of prices on line and I had a heart attack (crazy prices).

Try to find a DJ that plays alot of latin music (we love to dance  ) .. and don't forget the Pisco Sour!!!!

Good Luck in your plans....

Hola!

I leave to pick up Lu on May 19th and we arrive back in Chicago on May 25th. We will be living here in Wisconsin. Her parents live in the U.S. but it is about a 12-14 drive to Viriginia so it's not like it is very close.

$120 per person for the reception???? Sounds pretty strange......the food is going to cost us $17 per person and we will have a cash bar but beer/soda will be free. That's nowhere near $120 per person.

The DJ is a good friend of mine and I think we will actually supply him with a lot of the music. Lucia is bringing a bunch of her CD's over and is already compiling a list of some songs she would like.

I'd love to have some Piscos available for everyone to at least try at the reception. I'll take care of whatever is left hahahaha.

Saludos!

Merc

And oh yeah.....you're not the only ones that like to dance! I love it and am pretty good for a gringo which always surprises everyone. I've been told I've got the swing.
