She can't work until her EAD and sometimes DMV wants you to have an EAD as well to get a state drivers license.

K-1:
06/08/2016: I-129F Sent

06/16/2016: Check cashed

08/23/2016: Approval

09/09/2016: At the Stockholm Embassy

09/28/2016: Embassy received completed medical

09/29/2016: Interview date, APPROVAL 

10/14/2016: Visa ISSUED

10/17/2016: Visa received

 

AOS
12/22/2016: I-485, I-131, I-765 Sent

01/10/2017: Check cashed

02/03/2017: Biometrics completed

04/17/2017: Your case is ready to be scheduled for an interview

01/20/2018: I-485 Interview letter received

02/01/2018: I-485 Interview, APPROVAL

Nope. She can't.

 

It is one of the biggest drawbacks of the K1. She has to wait.

I agree with all of the above. If working right away is important, K-1 is not the best path to go. She needs to wait for her EAD to work.

When she gets her Green Card, her EAD is invalid, so yes, until she has her green card she needs her EAD to work

Yes. it takes about 3-4 months after filing for it (which you should file along with AOS). If you already filed for AOS, you can still file for the EAD for free by including a copy of the I-485's NOA1.

Yes she could. But it still can take 3 - 4 months to receive an EAD. Again... this is the big drawback of the K1. The loved one gets here faster but is limited on what they can do for a while. With a spousal visa she could have started work from the first day she entered the US.

Does she have a International Permit with her Ukraine license?

My husband applied for a US drivers license when he entered on a K-1. The date expired when the k-1 expired. I waited until we had filed AOS, and then we took the info back to the dmv. They gave him a drivers license that is good for six months.

Met: 09/14/2013

Started Dating: 02/09/2014

Began Long Distance Relationship: 02/13/2014

I moved to Costa Rica: 01/15/2015

My parents visited and he proposed: 06/29/2016

Packet Sent: 07/01/2016

NOA1: 07/05/2016

NOA2: 08/25/2016

NVC Tracking number: 09/12/2016

Medical: 09/28/2016

Interview: 10/11/2016

POE: 10/28/2016

Wedding: 1/6/17 !!!!!

AOS and EAD Packet Sent: 1/18/17

NOA1: 1/23/17

The amount of people that get into the K1 without reading the fine print is too damn high.

It makes me wonder if they picked that one to ''be with their partner faster'' without realizing the complications involved.

For me, not being able to travel or work for 3-4 months was the big reason why I didn't choose that option. 

No judgment directed to OP or anyone, just curious, since there are often posts like this.

As for the driver's license I wouldn't risk driving without an american license,taking a test is beneficial since

traffic regulations change a bit from country to country, and without a green card yet it seems like asking for trouble.

➺ 02/04/17 Petition mailed 

➺ 02/08/17 Case Assigned to USCIS Nebraska, sigh. 

➺ 02/13/17 We got our NOA1! PD: February 8th 

➺ 12/15/17 NOA2 finally! after 10 1/2 months. 

➺ 12/21/17 NVC confirmed they received our file 

➺ 01/22/18 Documents sent to Rapidvisa 

➺ 02/05/18  NVC received our package 

➺ 03/15/18 Case complete! 

➺ 06/27/18  We got our Interview date! August 28th 

➺ 08/30/18 The package arrived (waited at Juarez)

➺ 08/31/18 Entered the U.S with my husband 

➺ 02/13/19 Husband confesses he cheated, leaves

➺ 02/16/19 Husband decides to abandon the marriage

➺ 05/13/19  I am officially divorced. 

 ➺ 07/03/20  I file to remove conditions on my own     

 ➺ 08/13/21 I finally get my biometrics appointment 

➺ 02/26/22 I got my interview assigned: March 31st.
