Do you guys think its too risky to buy the tickets to travel to the U.S. before the interview? 

I-130 Petition Filed From Abroad

August 12-2016 Sent I-130 Petition to Chicago.

August 16-2016 USCIS received I-130, Acceptance notification received by email. Case sent to Nebraska.

February 21-2017 Approved I-130 sent to NVC.

 

NVC

March 26-2017 Submitted I-864 AOS Email Processing

April 03-2017 Case Complete NVC in 1 week

May 23-2017  Interview Date

May 23-2017 Approved!. Thank GOD!

It's definitely too risky. Wait till u get visa in ur hand. Anything can happen and to lose all that money isn't worth it.

buying tickets is not a good idea, because you never know what will happen after the interview. They can ask you for additional information as well as taking a delayed decision. So being optimistic, it is a risk. another options is to buy tickets with flexible dates but it will increase the price of the ticket

A sage piece of advice you'll hear time and time again on this forum is never to book anything until the visa is set in stone. Buying tickets and then finding out it's either been denied, or requires further checks is just inviting trouble.

Highly recommended not to buy tickets until you have the visa in your hand.

 

although it's not common, visas can come with errors, there can be some sort of problem with the delivery, etc 

 

last year or the year before someone from Brazil had his immigrant packet and passport with visa stolen from the correios truck on the way to delivery... you never know what's going to happen. So, unless your tickets are refundable and can be changed, best to save the money and buy them later on
