Hi, I got my permanent resident card (10yrs) through marriage . She filled i130 form for me to adjust my status. I supposed to get 2yrs green card but due to challenges along the line my case was not approved until 4yrs and I was given 10yrs green card. And I have been in this country for 5yrs. I feel like applying for my citizenship after 6months  of having my 10yrs green card. I need advice on this please..

You can only apply for citizenship when you have been a permanent resident for 3 years minus 90 days if you are still married to your USC spouse.

 

Since you've only been a permanent resident for 6 months, you don't qualify. The time you spent waiting for your greencard does not count.

Agree with above. The clock starts ticking from the date you became an LPR, which is  listed on the green card.

You are not eligible to file for citizenship yet. Just look at the date on your GC under 'Resident since' and start your clock by that date.

Immigrant fee paid on ELIS - Jan 24th

POE - Jan 25th

Update on GC and SSN

(as of March 14th, 2014)

ELIS status - Closed (Card produced)

USCIS case check with receipt number (starts with IOE) - Card delivered in the mail

SSN - Received (Went to SSA location to apply for one)

N-400 package mailed in - Nov 7th

Payment posted on cc account - Nov 10th
