Hello guys

I came to the US 2 years ago this April on the CR1 visa

Late March i submitted my evidence as required and was sent for biometrics which i already have done; i was sent info via mail stating my green cards been extented for an year.

My question is will they send a new green card as the old is expired i am meanwhile wslking around with the letter from immigration as proof that i have an years extension.

I'm assuming you have filed to have the conditions on your green card removed. The letter they have sent you is a 1-year extension of your green card. What will happen now is that they will process your application; it may take up to 1 year to process your application. They may call you in for an interview. Once your application is approved, then yes, they will send you a new 10-year green card.

If your application takes >1 year to approve (this may happen depending on how swamped the service centers are), you need to make an appointment with your local USCIS office (called an InfoPass appointment) and request an I-551 stamp in your passport. This will extend the validity of your green card for more time (usually another 1 year).

For now just hold tight and wait for you application to be processed.

Agripa answered a lot of your questions.  But in the meantime, if you travel outside the United States in the time that you are waiting for your 10-year card, you must carry your Expired Green Card AND your I-797 extension letter.  Be sure you have BOTH.

And...sorry to say...if you live in a State where immigrants are stopped and asked for papers routinely, you should always have both your expired card and your letter with you.

I cannot tell where you live.  If you are on the West Coast, and you sent your package to the California Service Center, then you should expect to wait at least 8-10 months.  If you live on the East Coast, and you sent your package to the Vermont Service Center, then you should expect to wait for 12-14 months.

Good luck!
