Does the US have a large stockpile of these bombs. If it broke down their underground infrastructure then it has to be an effective way to deal with that particular issue, assuming it worked.

How much would this cost (not the whole operation but the MOAB).

Now I personally don't think it was used just to show NK the USA's military prowess but I bet the administration had one eye on that part of the world looking for any reaction.

Very dangerous game to play if Trump wants to call NK bluff.

Say we wanted to destroy all of ISIS with these bombs.

Lets estimate and say there are 100,000 ISIS fighters (SOHR says 80,000 - 100,000).

If this single 300 million dollar missile killed 100 ISIS fighters, it would take us 300 billion to kill 100,000.

Granted that is very very crude math here and it ignores a huge number of complex issues and makes huge assumptions. I just like multiplying numbers :)

300 billion I guess isn't so bad.

It's actually even cheaper:

The 314 million dollars that has been going around was actually for 20 bombs.

Was this not more about halting the use of the tunnels rather than taking out a small army.

Again the question isn't about the action per se but about the presidents mindset, the "foreign policy" for using this ammunition in this part of the world.

It could just be to placate his base when on the campaign trail he was threatening to bomb everyone out of every area (cited Syria and Iraq and Libya i think). The blitzekrieg approach isn't a sound policy for the US military to engage in. Bombing the carp out of places will only antagonise other nations already less than enamoured with the US thereby inviting further attacks against Americans.

Of course any questions on this won't be answered due to all plans being "top secret". As Spicer just today wouldn't ask even the simplistic of questions in that did the president personally sign off the use of this bomb (the largest non nuclear device that is known of) in the US arsenal). Yes or no wouldn't have divulged any state secrets but it was blown off to ask the Department of Defence to answer that.

He's taken it as far as he can without it being nuclear as that is the next level the military can go to. This was a show of force for the benefit of other nations that weapons like these will be used. To have escalated the military force to basically not have any other place to go to show more might other than going nuclear should worry the population.

Interesting, so it's just under $16 mil each. That's not too bad I guess considering what it does.

Ya so if the death toll is 100 terrorists, that's "only" 160,000 dollars per terrorist. Not too bad!

Maybe we'll get some 2 for 1 deals as well.

I bet NB could use his car sales tactics to negotiate these deals. "What's it gonna take to get this terrorist dead by this MOAB today"?

I have no idea how they count the dead?

The news cant stop talking about the Mother of all Bombs. It has a heck of a name that's for sure.

Imagine the psychological effects. A bomb drops 1/2 mile away....and it kills you.

I hope we drop a couple more....mother of all bombs.

"MOAB" is funny because it just makes me think of the National Park.

My wife said she read an article that mentioned that the bomb was so big we don't have a plane that has a proper system for carrying it and dropping it, so instead it was sort of "pushed" out of the cargo hold of a plane. Not sure if that is true. Sounds hilarious and I would have loved to see a visual of that. A bunch of guys in a plane giving a giant weapon of death a big "nudge" out the back.

This is a more in depth video about the MOAB
