soooo, we sent our I-129F away in mid-march and now realise that the passport photos we included in our application are of a british size, rather than american.

does anyone know if this is likely to cause problems processing our case, and if so what kind of problems it'll cause? also, is there anything we can do right now to remedy the situation? :crying:

yours anxiously,

jon and jeannie.

Hi

Well you know all the foreign Fiances had the pics taken in their own country. I had mine taken with a white background and did not smile... lol

No but they accepted it so if you have yours like that it should be fine. The white backgrownd is important.

Also: Dont forget to write your name on the back of the picture and dont forget to date it also.

All the best.

I think a few people have reported no problems despite having the wrong sized photos with an initial petition, but nobody here can guarantee you won't get an overzealous inspector who wants your photos to meet every letter of the specifications.

The only thing you can do now is get the proper sized photos and have them ready in case you do get an RFE for them. But be aware that they may not be needed.

There's no good way to send them corrected photos (or any other info) before they request it via an RFE. If you try sending them some unsolicited information now, it's unlikely to make it to your case file, and there's even a chance it could delay things if they do try and pull your case file.

thanks for the speedy replies, guys.

i just checked and the passport photos were indeed british sized 1.5" x 2" - it's encouraging to hear YuAndDan that this caused you no problems. :) i wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience?

DakotaK1 yep, ours were taken with a white background as well (and i didn't smile either ). however, while we did write our names on the back of the photos we didn't date them - jeannie doesn't remember reading that this was a requirement - could this be a potential problem?

... god, who would've thought filling-in forms could be so nerve-wracking! i need a lie down. or a beer. actually i'll just have a beer.

Well, when you get to the Embassy for interview you have to submit more photos. Considering the beneficiary is from the UK in this instance they would hardly fly to the USA to get their photos taken! So, in answer to your question, I'm sure it would be fine.

Snappy Snaps is one of the recommended retailers for getting the photos done for the Embassy and theirs would be British sized.

thanks lucyrich. that's good advice and we intend on following it by getting the correct kind passport photos taken tomorrow, just in case).

now you'll have to excuse my ignorance here but, what exactly does RFE stand for? and if you get an RFE, is that horribly detrimental to your case? and what sort of delay is an RFE likely to impose on an application?

thanks. :)

Oh do they? I thought they were one of the places that would do US sized ones.

Chas got his US sized ones done at a local photographer - cost a bit more than the UK size, but we wanted to err on the side of caution.

jon and jeannie,

For the purpose of the I-129f petition the photos you submitted will probably be OK. They will not be OK for the visa application, however, so be sure to get the correct size when you reach that stage of the process.

They do special photos for visas and passports, which may be what you are thinking of. I know that these are the type you will need when packet 3 arrives. In P3 it specifies the places you can go to get acceptable photos, Snappy Snaps is one of them. But these are still UK sizes nonetheless.

An RFE you can get if there was something missing or they need more evidence. For example when you did not send in enough evidence of the relationship they will mail out an RFE.

An RFE can be a pain in the butt cos you have to wait a little longer, but hey no big deal really just a pain thats all.
