We put in for an expedite on 4/3/17 due to financial hardships. When my husband first got here money was not a problem. Then we had a baby and baby had an emergency surgery at 2 months and I was diagnosed with multiple medical issues. Then I got hit with astronomical medical fees for both me and baby on top of husbands dental work. My deductible is $3000 per person with an out of pocket of $5500 per person. Even with a health spending account which I contributed the max our bills have been over $10,000. I lost $5500 in pay while out on maternity leave and had to pay benefits out of pocket back to employer. Savings slowly disappeared to cover everything and then catch up. We got paperwork requesting proof on 4/8/17. I faxed letter and bills over on 4/10/17 as proof. Today I got text saying card was being produced so USCIS moved pretty quickly and was understanding.

Wow!  I am glad everything worked out. Congratulations on becoming a mommy! :)  I also had to pay for him to remove 3 of his wisdom tooth the second week of him arriving.  He was having these bad headaches so we when we went to the doctors, it was his wisdom teeths. Unfortunately, he does not have insurance and the one for my job is too expensive so I did not want to add him.  I also had to incur those cost and then after I had to pay for antibiotics since one of his wounds became infected.  He then dislocated his shoulder lifting weights at the gym... smh.  I must concur, I should of saved more, my husband also told me this...  but I had no idea these things will come so unexpectectly.  I am now desperate for him to start working

Stuff happens and everyone will go through some financial hardship sooner or later no matter how prepared you try to be.
I am glad the post of the successful expedite gives hope that USCIS understands that.

Thanks! Yes, I thought I saved enough but life happens to us all with the unexpected. Type out a 1 pg detailed letter with all the info about the unexpected expenses and you can attach the bills as proof which is what I did. I had insurance for my husband and baby which added to my pay deductions but still I wasn't expecting half the expenses that arose. I am also ready for my husband to work because any more unexpected expenses will wipe us out! Good luck.

Sorry to say that, but Uber is not an option while waiting for your EAD. when you are not authorized it means that, you should be careful because your petition can be denied. with any evidence of working without authorization but you can apply for an expedited process. see this Uscis link, Financial loss allows you to that petition

Just to add based on my very recent experience: an infopass appointment will not be useful specifically to submit an expedite request. As told by my local office they no longer forward or process these requests. Therefore, the easiest way to do it is to call the customer service center and/or requesting assistance from the congressman.

3 month old thread bump, lol :D

Anyway, that's great, was your EAD card expedited?

How did you speak to the agent? Did you ask for a tier 2 immigration officer?

Thanks

nope.

if you had a job offer in hand most likely but not because your wife will have a child in over 5 months. find a job then ask for expedite.

Hi i hope you are still in this forum. I wanted to ask if you had a job offer in hand when you applied for expedite ead

I do not have a job offer in hand and was thinking to go for financial hardship. You know my husband works and has been able to afford us so far but we are running out of money seriously. We have a car to pay, on top of other bils, and also i have my school loans which take more than half of his paycheck so its been hard to afford living on one paycheck. Based on your experience can i expedite based on these ? What proof did you submit to uscis?

Thanks

The actual criteria (https://www.uscis.gov/forms/expedite-criteria) is "Severe financial loss to company or person" (not hardship). While you are free to try for an expedite given those conditions, I don't see where the severe financial loss is. Those are just expenses you incur as part of living together whether you decide to work or not, or are offered employment. The reason having a job offer sometimes qualifies for an expedite is because the job would be loss if they do not expedite processing, therefore causing a severe financial loss.

If you plan to request an expedite, I highly suggest having a firm job offer in hand first.
