I really don't understand how global warming has become a political issue. What are Republicans afraid of? Emission regulations? Cleaner fuel? Ahhhh scary!

Yes they're afraid of those things because they cost money to implement, and their buddies in industry don't like it when their massive profits see a small cut. Heaven help us if Exxon couldn't make their largest profits in history! Quick we need more government subsidies for polluting industries!

Yeah, they aren't at all concerned that the higher costs might drive more elderly people to turn off their A/Cs and DIE, because we all know higher energy costs aren't turned around to consumers. They are only concerned about corporations. Damn Republicans.

Then blame the energy companies. They will be the the ones who decide to pass on the cost of conservation to their customers instead of reinvesting from their massive record profits. Anyway - you can guarantee if the government forced industry to do the right thing, the measure would be accompanied by even more massive subsidies to these already profitable companies.

I said we shouldn't reduce emissions?-- Go back and reread. That is not what I said at all. I was commenting on the question "what are Republicans afraid of?" and the assertion that it could only be that their corporation buddies won't continue to make profits.

I see you actually did not get the sarcasm at all. The point I was trying to make is, perhaps there are other consequences Republicans are afraid of, consequences I guarantee you that Democrats are equally afraid of, that will probably result in no action being taken by either party.
