what liberals think this? Iran is full of reactionary chopf##ks..and their regime like others, is a shame to all who are progressive in their beliefs..

The ones who are suspiciously not commenting on this story. It surprises me that they aren't here attacking the source of the news.

I'm pretty liberal myself and some of the Iran apologists literally make me sick. I'm not talking about people here, I mean in general. So many people in Europe and around the world are cheering Iran on for 'defying' America while remaining tight-lipped about Iran's abominable human rights record, its draconian penalties for adultery and stealing, and the fact that all that government does is lie, lie, lie, lie. They don't even tell PLAUSIBLE lies; they just say the most ridiculous things.

I have no problems with Iranians themselves; I've had a few friends from Iran and they were warm, wonderful people. Every Iranian I've ever met has been that way...very cuddly. I feel deeply sorry for the Iranian people for the cr@p they're still going through nearly 30 years after the revolution. It's something the US should avoid involvement in at all costs, though.

As for Iran kidnapping the soldiers; the Iranians are going to say one thing, the UK government another. Maybe they were in Iranian waters (they probably weren't), maybe they weren't. That still does not give Iran the right to treat those soldiers that way. None whatsoever.

Who are these Iran apologists? Can you post any stories about people in Europe "cheering on Iran" please?

Who said the British gov apologized? The Iranians did, that's who.

Well clearly they can be trusted to tell the truth, eh? ;)

I don't see how anyone can be surprised by this, especially after the whole war on terror bull started.... human rights violations were hapenning looooong before and it has only increased after the said war on terror, not only by Iranians, but by Iraquis, by US and many other countries that are off the radar now that the Iraq war has taken full frontal cover

Naturalized! Yeah!

I have no doubt the British sailors were in Iran waters- easily could have been by mistake, or not, but definately have no doubt they were there.

As far of being exposed to torture. I wonder if Alberto Gonzales would agree?

Oh, and what makes you so damn sure about that exactly, especially when there's evidence to the contrary, i.e. the fact that UK and Iran originally agreed on where the Solders where, until it was pointed out this was Iraqi waters when Iran then changed its tune.

I guess you've just made a decision based on no facts. Congrats.

wow people sure get angry. I am not saying that the Brits were spying - that they deserved to be held or any other comment choosing a political side. all I am saying is if history has taught me anything, I am sure tehy were in Iranian waters. You know how easy it is to wander over a border?

I'm not angry, not sure why you would think that? I'm just curious as to why you so sure that they were in Iranian waters?

I'm personally not sure if they were in Iranian waters or not by the way, but I'd say the evidence leans towards the fact that they were not.

no offense meant really. Of course it is possibe that they were not in Iranian waters and my comment was just an opinion. I do believe they were in Iranian waters or at least iran believed they were. Just to be clear - i'm not defending Iran nor condemning the soldiers. Everything Iran and the British governmetn has said on this is political talk.

What, you want me to name names?

Like I said, I'm not talking about anyone HERE. If you want to see the apologists, go to any leftie board or really anywhere that Europeans hang out. You could also check out the HYS (Have Your Say) section on the BBC's website; it's sort of famous for that.

It seems that Iran got what it wanted: its diplomat back, for the sailors.

Mock executions are classic "no bruises" torture. (Gitmo defenders might disagree.) They weren't treated well at all.
