We are planning to go back to Cebu later this year. This will be our first trip since my wife entered US on K1 visa on 9/22/16. She is currently going through the AOS process and may or may not have green card by the time we take the trip. She has a valid Philippine passport that doesn’t expire for another 3 years.

I know this has been asked before on here but I just want to be clear. My understanding is I should book the tickets in the name on her passport (her maiden name) and also carry other documents with us in case of questions such as marriage certificate. She also has EAD/AP card and will have this in her possession for re-entry to US.

Can anyone that has traveled back under similar circumstances verify this?

Don't worry my asawa and I traveled back to the Philippines with her maiden name passport and no ROM at the time as well when we went back with no problem. I will let you know what you need when you go.

The name on the tickets needs to coincide with the name on her passport no exceptions. Make sure she carries a copy of your marriage license when y'all fly back, this will allow you to go in on Balikbayan visa and not the standard tourist visa. You will submit this at Immigration when you get to the Philippines. If you DO NOT have her green card yet make sure she is carrying her AP document granting her the Advance Parole, also make sure it is valid during the period that you guys are in the Philippines. If you DO receive her green card then you will have to bring that instead of the AP document.

It is actually a rather simple process on the way back and my wife did not have a problem coming back. She thought she would because it was only her and our daughter on the way back, but in reality she didn't.

I only know of a few that traveled with the AP card, they had no issues doing this.  One couple did comment that the CBP agent at POE didn't know what the AP card was and had to check on it.. but after that all was fine.

Yes the name on the tickets must match the name in the passport.  And yes carry a copy of your marriage certificate.   After that you should have no issues with getting the BB stamp, boarding the airplane or returning to the USofA

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

This is a quote from someone else that just returned from AP:

"Hello,

I came back to the US last friday, March 7th on AP and wanted to update everyone about my experience. My POE was Chicago. Everyone was very nice. They made me take the "visitors with a visa or first time ESTA" line at customs. The officer didn't ask me any questions when I showed him my documents but he said it's normal procedure for people on AP to go to secondary inspection. So I was taken to secondary inspection where there were other people waiting. They take your passport and AP card and tell you to wait. I guess they go into an office and check your data on a computer. I waited for about 45 minutes, it wasn't very busy at all. Then they called my name and gave me back my documents. That was it, no questions asked at any point. All the officers were very nice and at no point I was worried or felt like I was being mistreated.

My only advice is that if you have a connecting flight you should plan on having enough time to make the connection. I overheard one officer saying that usually people wait 2-3 hours or even more depending on how busy it is."

Enjoy your vacation!!!  Hope that helps a little :-)

But usually if they are traveling together then both of them can go through the US citizen line and not the visitor or PR line.
