Hi guys, so my wife submitted our Petition for a CR-1 at the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China on 7th February 2017.

We got approved just the following week which was the 12th February but my wife didn't receive the approval notice until after five weeks when the letter arrived in the mail.

Now that we have the letter, it is stated that the department of state will contact us to give us instructions and further schedule an interview.

so my question is, how long til the department of state will get in touch with us and through which means. will they send me an email or a regular mail just like the USCIS did.

So anyone with knowledge about the time frame can share their experiences in relation to Direct Consular filing in Guangzhou China or any other country. Thanks everyone

I don't know about DCF in China, but in Russia shortly after the initial I-130 approval, we were sent just an email with further instructions on how to fill out the DS-260 and then schedule an interview. We got that email about 2-3 weeks after the approval. That email also included our case number. Once you get your case number, that's when you can start the process essentially.

We never got any physical mail during this process except the actual visa/immigrant packet at the end of the process. I know in other countries, however, that sometimes they do sent things out via snail mail. It seems like DCF is faster in some countries than others. Hopefully someone from China can inform you about how long it took to get their case number/response.

Thanks millefleur and its kinda weird to me that its taking too long to receive the instructions which includes the case number, it took only 5 days for the I-130 to be approved but its now taking forever to receive the case number. Thanks once again and as you said i'm hoping somebody who have gone through the process in China can give me the necessary information i want.

Sorry to hear that it's taking so long. :( I hope they'll contact you soon.

If you want this process to go as fast as possible, here's my advice: while you are waiting to hear back from them, gather up all your financial documents (I-864, proof of US domicile, old tax returns, etc.) and whatever docs your wife needs (plus translations if necessary) and have them ready ASAP. This way when you get your case number and are able to make an appointment, you can make an appointment as soon as possible and just show up totally prepared with everything.

Even though we got our case number in January, we didn't make an interview appointment until March. This was because we had to wait a bit to prepare all the docs. So you can get started on it now and be ready when the time comes.

I know for fact  every consulate have their particular time frame, I'm waiting for response on if they will approve to file CR1 on DCF at US Rio consulate, after  waiting for  4 weeks I decide to send an email asking for any progress, I suggest you to do the same  call or send email , is the only way to know what’s going on.

My  Roc timeline:

08/16/19  sent I-751 packet to USCIS Lockbox in Dallas

08/21/19  packet received by USCIS

08/21/19: received text message with case number ( Texas Service Center)

08/23/19: received extension letter in the mail

08/30/19 received fingerprint appointment letter

09/17/19  fingerprint appointment day (done)

09/24/19  fingerprint review completed

The funny thing is you cannot contact them now, they only have a web form through which you can use to make all inquiries to them but you cannot submit that form without a case-number, its a requirement so until you have a case number you cant contact them.
