How are USCIS so slow? I am dying.

Totally normal for AOS to drag out, ours lasted 2 1/2 years from filing to approval. Most drag on for about a year-18 months.
Some get lucky at 6-9 months. 
Are you saying you had no biometrics ? Didn't understand what you meant there. Updates often aren't made after RFE response is received.
You should have done the SS right after you came here, now you have to wait.
You also could be driving had you filed for an EAD.
Those are the consequences of the choices you made.
Yes, you can apply for EAD/AP now. Make sure you attach the NOA1 from your AOS or you would get a RFE for no payment, it's free 
if you file with (or after) filing AOS.
Look over all the documents and forms you need to file correctly.
You should get updates for your EAD/AP when filling out the forms to get these updates.

Yes.  You can apply for your Social Security Card.  Make an appointment and gather the necessary documentation.  You're I-94 will most likely be expired so they will have to verify it through SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements Program).  Has it been 90 days since you have been in US.  Because it will be better if your I-94 has not expired yet.  If your I-94 is expired, you may need to wait until you get your Green Card or EAD.  Regardless, you will need utility bills, bank account, correspondence with USCIS etc., in your name on them.  Granted, you will need a SS# before you can open a bank account, but maybe joint will work.  Important thing is that your name appear on the address.  When we applied, I used correspondence from USCIS, Texas marriage license addressed to me and her, and a few other documents.  Take your passport, K1 visa, birth certificate, marriage license, etc. When you go.  I would also show them you notice for I-485 pending with USCIS.

You can apply for your EAD/AP, but time will start at zero once you submit the forms.  Not sure if they will charge you or not since your I-485 is pending.  If you would have applied all together there would have been no charge.

You would include the I-485's NOA1 in lieu of payment. No charge.

Stella, I would apply as soon as possible for EAD/AP as the process can drag on forever.  The sooner you apply, the sooner you get everything else started.  Don't wait!

Things seem to have slowed down in general with USCIS. We had to apply for a replacement GC due to USCIS making an error on my husband's card (wrong category) and they told us it would take at least a year for the new card to come.

Same with us.  What category did they give him?  My wife was a K-1 and they coded her CR-1 instead of CF-1.  Its been 7 months since we filed the I-90.

Ugh, I wonder how often this happens? We got CR-6 instead of CF-1. We recently traveled out of the country with my husband having the I-551 stamp in his passport and it was fine, so that was a relief. We do still have the old card since we applied online and they say you can just send a scan of the card, and his "wrong" green card scanned at the machines with no problem, as it turned out.

Did you make an InfoPass appt to get the stamp?  We haven't done that yet.  Instead, we just kept her Green Card.  I didn't want to give it up until they asked for it.  We also applied online and just provided them with a scanned copy.

That's crazy.  Seems like they need to train their employees on what each category means and what the consequences are for mis-categorizing someone.  I know of at least 4 of us that all happened around the same time.  Probably happens more than we would like to know.  Looks like someone skipped USCIS orientation.  Hahaha  Wonder if it is the same person?  LOL

guys i applied october of 2016 for marriage based AOS, had my interview in september and to this day i have received nothing. No updates i filed a service request in november and they answered me saying were within normal procsessing times. at this point im just like whatever... frustrating but what can you do

We did make an Infopass appt just to ask about it and the guy said he would give us the stamp just in case the GC was now "expired," and he also let us keep the old card. But the GC was not expired so probably didn't need the stamp - I felt like we should be prepared just in case.
