How are USCIS so slow? I am dying.

If there's one thing in life to test your patience, it's the green card process. My wife came on a K-1 visa in April of 2016. We got married in May and filed our I-485 at the beginning of June and we were stuck on "Fingerprint fee received" for over 10 months. Our online status just last Friday (April 7, 2017) changed to "Interview ready to be scheduled". We probably still have another couple months to go...

 

It sucks, I know. You just have to be patient unfortunately.

Also remember that the trend seems to be k1s take longer than AOS from tourist visa as most have the luxury of skipping an interview

Just saying. It's difficult not to have atleast EAD as I can't get a state driver's license. Driver's License is life atleast in a huge part of Texas. (it's not like new york or calif where some things are nearby) 

When my husband goes to work, I am basically cut off from the society. There is no UBER in this city. I can't walk 9miles just to go to the nearest corner store. Texas heat kills.

AOS can be 6-12 months in length.  It seems things have really slowed down.  Vermont is the worst.  We just completed our ROC which took 1 year 2 months and 19 days for 10y GC to be issued.  Like someone said earlier, this is a game of patience.

I understand.  I dealt with that pregnant and with a newborn in Florida. Sometimes you need to look at the positive spin.

My husband got his driver's license before he received his EAD card.  We took his passport, I-485 NOA1 letter, and marriage certificate.  We live in Ohio.

You can apply for a Texas Drivers License before receiving your EAD or Permanent Resident Card.  You just have to show them you have an I-485 pending with USCIS.

You will need your social security card, and a few other documents that have your current address in TX.  Some of the documents we used were her passport, correspondence from USCIS (NOA1), marriage certificate, marriage license (it had her address on it), expired I-94, letter from the Social Security Administration, Bank Account statement, and military ID.

 

You will have to go through a manual "legal status" verification since your I-94 is expired.  It takes a week or so, but once your status is verified you will get a letter in the mail saying "legal status is verified".  They will give you a 1 year expiration on your drivers license.  Then when you get either your EAD or Permanent Resident card you can renew your drivers license for longer.

Somebody dying of USCIS slowness, that the first I hear of that condition... I can only wish you a good and sweet death dear friend... Me, it's been long that I am very dead that I don't even complain again.

Imagine minimum wage staff at the Service Centers going through 2,300 AOS pkgs.. forms and evidence.. each day. They have just one chance to weed out any well-disguised fraudsters and scammers among the majority of genuine AOSers.

I filed ours in January 2016.. and still waiting.. called three times, stop by office two times and submite online request count less times... now we just give up and just wait till they get to our file...  if your aos does take longer the eight month, just make sure you resubmit your EAD four month before it expired.

5 months, ha. We filed 2 years and 1 month ago, on march 10 2015, and still waiting. They really don't do anything, and if they do - i dont know what exactly are they doing, but whatever it is - it's not working on AOS cases . To get our case moving we have to go there every time and not just to infopass, but to talk to our officer or his supervisor. I don't know why is it so ridiculous. (details are in my signature if you are interested)

I came to the US with K1 visa.

Applied for AOS in January 1. In my case status, they told me they received my evidence in Feb 2017 and will start working on my case again. 

Funny,until now, Jan 2018, that's the only update I have. No biometrics appointment, nothing at all. 

I requested for case inquiry in Dec, but after a month, nobody wad assigned to my case inquiry yet. 

The worst thing is I didn't apply for work permit or travel doc. I live in Tx and until now still don't have a social security number, no driver license and living like an undocumented. Now I'm pregnant and my husband just got laid off. I feel so devastated. Do you know if I can apply for social security number or work permit now?
