It has been 5 months since we filed our AOS paperwork. Does anyone have ANY idea when I might expect to receive my GC/interview date/ANY kind of communication from USCIS?

I came on a K1. Not that it makes a difference.

When it's been 6 months from your last status update (e.g. Fingerprint Fee Received) you can put in an online request for an update on your case. Some VJ members, including us, got approved after putting in a request, and hopefully you will at least learn more about where your case is at.

My AOS took like forever. Without interview and everything. They always were asking for more proof, like a certificate of good conduct, etc. Just to buy more time. Mine took like 1 year to be completed. At the end I was going nuts with infopass appointments to see what the problem was.

Timeline

AOS takes about a year, for some less and for others longer. We filed in May 2015, interview was Sept. 2016 and still

stuck in background checks. Some K1's adjusting do not get an interview but an interview waiver letter.

The timelines are all over the place.

I agree, that is the point of it all and we should be all grateful for that, many aren't that fortunate.

That's going to depend on if your case is at your local office or just the NBC. Either way it can take up to a year. You can start bothering officials after six months are up.

This!!!!

At least on a K-1 you get to be together very quickly. No path is perfect. I arrived on an IR-1 with a 10-year GC on arrival so at least we have no more USCIS hoops to jump through but our path to be together took 2 years. Pros bad cons of each path.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Spot on.

Every immigration process is frustrating, but at least K1s don't have to wait at least 12-14 months like us CR1's until we can be with our loved ones. Both have definitely pros and cons.

I'm a long distance newlywed, it's not fun. I know adjusting status can take forever, but you are with your partner, and it makes a huge difference.

Be patient. Try to live as normal as possible, stay in contact with USCIS, good luck!
