Hello,

my fiance (foreign national) and I would like to travel to another country together for vacation. He is living in his home country while waiting for his k-1 visa (I-129 application submitted in feb 2017). Would there be any problems from the US consulate at interview time if my fiancé travels outside his home counrty to meet me in the destination country for a vacation? Country of destination is not considered a "friend" of the US in current political atmosphere.

we want to have a vacation in country of choice before he travels to the US on a k-1 visa.

if the country isnt friend from USA, of course that it will be an issue at the interview.

why no travel to  a neutral country that doesnt affect his interview?

How do you know it will be an issue? What issue? What questions will get raised? Are you working from experience or just hypothetical?

I read the news but that doesn't mean I know how a traveler like this will or will not effect me. Traveling for vacation to a country the US has tensions with doesn't mean my fiancé will not get let into the US simply because we chose to go there.  thats why I ask  if anyone else has done travel like what we are thinking. Thanks for your response though :)

If said country is Cuba, or Egypt, or something similar, there shouldn't be any problems. Your fiance should just provide a sufficient explanation if asked. The fact that certain country is not an ally of the USA doesn't mean that citizens of other countries must not travel there. Even for the USA citizens it's just a recommendation to avoid travelling to such countries, personal safety wise.

FYI: I travelled to Iran in 2014 as a tourist, and have Iranian visa in my passport. I expected some questions during my interview, but wasn't ask any.

There are certain countries that definitely will raise eyebrows for sure.  If not a problem for the K-1 interview, it will be for you when returning home to the USA.  You may very well be pulled aside for secondary screening at immigration and asked some very tough questions as to why you visited x or y country.   And if flagged it may be more than a one off deal.  This goes double for your fiance when he comes to the USA since he is not a legal resident yet.  Just read some of the experiences of travelers on the Flyertalk forums.
