Maybe this question has been asked before and if so, sorry, but.....are tax returns really necesary for the I-134? I've been reading some topics here where some people say they are and others say they aren's so it's a bit confusing in terms of what to do. Sofar we are getting together letters form bank and employer, bank statements and pay stubs.

I sent my fiance along with the I-134 my past three years of tax returns (just in case they are needed) as well as copies of my last three paystubs and a letter from my employer, and will send him a letter from my bank as soon as I get it (had to send away for it).

They are specifically asked for on the I-134 if you are self employed. However, some consulates do ask that you bring them regardless. So, whenever you receive your informational packet from your Embassy (most call it Packet 3) they should inform you what they want with the I-134. If they don't you can always email them as ask.

Keep in mind that the I-134 is only one thing that a Conof will look at in determining if the applicant will or wont become a public charge. The more evidence you do have to show for future ability to support, the better.

My Cuban fiance was told specifically to have the last 3 years of my income tax returns with the I-134 at the interview. I think Lorelle is right. The more evidence you can show that this person won't become a public charge, the better. I plan on sending a cover letter with the following,

All that is required on the I-134

insurance certificate and beneficiary info, (my fiance)

health insurance benefit, (he will be added once marriage takes place)

1 year of bank statements

6 months pay stubs

my willingness to take out the security bond

having my fiance's education evaluated on US standards in order to find work here prior to his coming

I know it's overkill but we have been successful to this point I feel because we are prepared for everything.

Good luck to you!!

I plan on bringing my last 3 yrs tax returns, pay stubs, and letter from employer. I have read that since I am not self-employed I do not need the tax returns, but I would rather be safe than sorry ;)

If I am in Dublin, it's not like I could just run and get them.

I say bring them!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called the IRS and got my transcripts within a week

Having your tax returns is a good idea. I had 3 years of returns for Ying's interview in Thailand. They only took the most recent one.

I had the pay stubs, bank letter, employer letter and they still asked for the tax records. Best bet is to contact people on this site that have gone through that embassy.
