Nervous about upcoming Interview

Hi everyone,

My Citizenship interview is on April 11th in Orlando, FL. Coming up very soon! I am getting nervous now.

I have a few questions:

1. I submitted my last 3 years tax return with my N 400 application. I didn't make any photocopies of these (my mistake). Now I am asking myself, what if they ask me to show them at the interview? Would that make any sense if they asked that if I have already submitted them?

2. I am applying for Naturalization based on marriage to a U.S. citizen. Do I need to bring a photocopy of his U.S. Passport in addition to our our Marriage certificate?

3. We got married on December 19, 2010. I didn't become a resident til December 2011. And I submitted my N 400 on July 2016. Are they going to be "nicer" with me because so much time has passed since the time we got married? Or are they going to give me a hard time asking why I waited too long to get my Citizenship?

We kept putting it off because we were busy with the kids and also because of the money...

Thanks!

Try looking up interview experiences particular to your office by searching here.

My husband just did his naturalization a few months ago. He wasn't asked for any papers other than our marriage certificate. He came with a folder of tax returns, bills, bank statements, etc to show bonafide marriage. Everything that we submitted with the N-400, plus updated bills.

I don't think they care how long you've been married. They interview everyone for naturalization, not just spouses of USC. Some people remain a LRP for their entire life or naturalize late in life. Its a personal decision.

Good luck!

Hi guys,

I finally have the chance to write about my interview.

Arrived about 20 minutes before my Interview. Got through security with no problem at all. No lines. Waited in the waiting area for around 30 minutes or so and was finally called by an IO.

After entering his office the IO swore me in first and then we sat down and he only asked me for my Passport and Green card, nothing else.

Then the interview started right away.

He started asking the civics questions:

1. What is one promise that you make when you become a US Citizen?

2. Where is the Statue of Liberty?

3. Who is the Governor of your State now?

4. Who was the first President of the US?

5.  What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

6. Name two US Holidays.

I was also asked to write a simple sentence in English and read aloud another one.

He also asked me the Yes and No questions from N 400.

Also, asked me to confirm some details such as my date of birth, what I have studied in the U.S, my address...

One thing that I didn't research enough was the meaning of the Oath of Allegiance. I was asked what it meant and I don't think I gave a great answer. I wish I had researched more about that one.

At the end he gave me a piece of paper saying that I have passed the English test and the U.S. history and government test. And Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval.

I have to say that my heart was racing at times. I was nervous but everything went well.

He said I was going to get a letter in the mail with the date of my Oath. It is going to be a Judicial ceremony because I requested a name change.

Just my two cents.

I hope I can help somebody with my experience. If you have any more questions please feel free to send me a message.

Just back from mine.  Very similar to your experience. Just asked 6 questions too. The hardest part was understanding my interviewer, who had a very heavy accent. But still 40 minutes from entering the building to leaving.
