To remove the stockpiles safely would require American personnel on the ground, with the qualifications to do so. And to do so would require a military action with many boots on the ground to do so. He sent a quick message to Syria. To do any more than what he has done will take congressional approval to do so.

Congress? They haven't done squat. Our congressional leaders are worthless. The president is the comander in chief, lets see a plan.

This must be bringing back vivid fears to you, Brian...

It is a fearful thing when you know what it does to your body. I was afraid when I was there because it is the desert, and the desert gets hot. And even though WE in the military have the means to operate in such an environment as in chemical warfare, I sweat a lot. I get overheated easily. And the protective gear is not the coolest of clothing to wear. I know how it feels to over heat, to lose too much salt. I was afraid of the heat. But imagine how it would be to be exposed to that ####### for a baby, to the agent itself?

Awful stuff.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Technically to do what he has already done required congressional approval, according to Trump himself.

That was, of course, until he became President then obviously the rules changed. Obviously.

I just want to add...

Chemical warfare gives me shivers. I KNOW what they can do! I know the affects. I was scared enough for my own self. But we are talking innocent babies here. Who will stand up for them?? If not us, then who? That is in part what moved Trump to do what he did. And we have Americans there too. Sarin alone will cause nausea, convulsions, vomiting. Cant breath. Your body loses the ability to function. It is like spraying RAID on an insect. And that is what these babies were being exposed to. And more. It is thought that other agents were at work as well. So who wants this to happen to their child?

So you want to stand up for the children dying of chemical weapons.

But you have no problem with the children dying for regular weapons? Thousands have been killed before last week. It is only a problem when it is chemical warfare? Blowing children's body parts off is fine, but gas crosses the line? Very strange line.

I don't think anyone wants to see civilians in Syria come to harm by any means(although in this forum I have red zone real dehumanizing statements about Syrian refugees, go figure) but right now we have to determine the solution for chemical weapons, which are outlawed by international treaty for good reason. Yes chemical weapons creates a particular threat .

I think determining the solution for chemical weapons while not addressing a solution for the larger problem won't get us very far. While I may agree that chemical weapons are "worse" than conventional weapons, when used on civilians they both cross the line. Perhaps legally there isn't an international treaty against slaughtering your own civilians, but again whether he uses gas or bombs doesn't really matter very much to me. I will feel no satisfaction that we "solved the chemical weapons threat" if he continues to massacre innocent people with impunity.

What's the Constitutional premise for attacking a sovereign nation for internal politics, especially without a Congressional declaration of war? While the scope of authority the President is given has been widening, the conflict in MENA has also been prolonged, and against the same radical elements of the same one religion. While I think this is done primarily because it's given the President in the last couple decades more discretionary authority, both with troop movements and obscuring costs within the budget, for the sake of transparency and the rules it still needs to go through Congress. This seems even less justifiable to me given the games they're playing with North Korea, of who's threats and deliberate attempts to build a nuclear weapon capable of striking other countries, without any doubt, poses a serious risk to its neighboring countries and the US and its territories. Priorities.

But does it stop here?  The guarantors that there were no nerve agents available to Assad  was ,uuuhuh, the Russians.

I expected to see, but have not, a plan to destroy the stockpile of Chemical weapons we know about.

chemical weapons degrade over time and need to be destroyed anyways.
but they can always be made again.

I was an NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) officer in the Army, and I was exposed to sarin nerve agent in war. I also have Iraqi Kurdish friends who had their loved ones attacked by sarin nerve agent. And I am thankful Trump took a strong stand, unlike his predecessor, to do something about it. Not just lip service. Not a face saving deal with the Russians. But real physical action to say "Hey! It stops here!".

WOW.. Hate to here that. What war where you exposed to sarin

I believed Bush when he said this, and I still believe it today. There was video evidence of Iraq moving there WMD's into Syria, but no one wanted to hear it at that time.

Were they using a Russian courier to do it?
