Oh ok. ;)

I think it's good if you can manage low turnover and more reliable employees. With all that overhead they plan for most certainly should be happy investors.

Our day shift was mainly (legal) newcomers and retirees.  We had a few really loyal stay at home during the day moms on night shift and the rest were kids, surprisingly loyal kids.  It helped as well that we were not a corporate store as it gave more room for inscentives.

Certainly not the norm, but nice to see if you guys made it work.

Maybe the landscape is changing for corporate service sector, but given they're in the minority...

Some places are required to advertise that they're hiring even when they're not, it's company policy to do so mostly in unionized situations.

The addage of "McDonald's is always hiring" isn't necessarily true.  I managed a McDonald's that was fairly large that hired maybe 4x in two years.

I'm talking about basically almost every. retail. store. You name it. JC Pennys, Kohls, etc and almost every restaurant as well, not only fast food. They're just all (supposedly) hiring, all the time. Ben & Jerrys, Dominos...

It's not hard to get a job here, but it is hard to get a good job.

Some companies force them to have hiring signs for stores within x amount of miles who are hiring for the position in retail (or at least that's how my former district manager explained it to me).

We only have one of most stores here :D

I do believe most, probably not all like you say but most of the places are actually hiring. I know some people who came here just recently and within 2 weeks they had a job. That would explain the 2% unemployment but like I said, they're not high paying jobs. In this area if you're say a family of 4 and you want to be comfortable you'd need over 100k a year, most service sector jobs don't give you that.
