'B.C.' and 'Wizard of Id' comics creator dies

ENDICOTT, N.Y- Cartoonist Johnny Hart, whose award-winning "B.C." comic strip appeared in more than 1,300 newspapers worldwide, died at his home on Saturday. He was 76.

"He had a stroke," Hart's wife, Bobby, said on Sunday. "He died at his storyboard."

"B.C.," populated by prehistoric cavemen and dinosaurs, was launched in 1958 and eventually appeared in more than 1,300 newspapers with an audience of 100 million, according to Creators Syndicate, Inc., which distributes it.

Oh no, I LOVED the BC comic strips. My Dad bought my Mum some of the books whilst she was in hospital having me. They have been with me for over 30 years now.

Never will I forget Clumsy Carp, Wiley (we're 98% water y'know!), Peter, Thor, the Broads and of course B.C himself. Can't forget Apteryx (the wingless bird with hairy feathers!) or the ant-eater either.

I loved all of them. RIP Johnny Hart.

He partnered with Brent Parker on Wizard of ID. Maybe Parker will continue on, but it just isn't the same when someone else does it, IMO.

OMG, Johnny Hart comic strip writer, #2 in my mind only to Charles Schultz. I used to own an incredibly large collection of B.C. paperbacks.
