Hi everyone, my husband (the k1) holder and I just got married a week ago, and now we are starting the AOS paperwork, and I am wondering who actually fills out the forms, such as I-485 form? I understand that as the American, I fill out the financial support, but does anyone have advice as to if it is better for the American or the foreign spouse to fill out the form if they are able, which my husband is.

Thanks for any clarification in advance!

hi

doesnt matter who fills out the form as long as it has signatures on it..the information on the form pertains to your husband because it is him who is asking for Adjustment of Status...

good luck

First of all, congratulations on your marriage!

The application for AOS is the non-USC's application for Conditional Permanent Resident status in the US. Who actually fills out the forms is between you and your husband, but it will be his application and ultimately his greencard.

I personally think whoever can do a better (more accurate) job is the one who should fill them out. Then maybe the other spouse can proofread.

I am the USC in our family, but I filled out all the forms because my english is better and I've already had LOTS of practice with these &%@# forms. I had my husband proofread his and sign it, and I had our son sign his.

Good luck!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!
