Hey everyone, I just wanted to say thank you all so much for the info posts and guides on here it has helped my fiancée and I so much! When we first considered a visa we made an infopass appointment to figure out how to even get this started and what our best options were. Now we are waiting an interview for my K1 Visa in Montreal, Canada on April 19th. Just completed my medical in BC on April 3rd. 2 days 24 hours of driving one night in a hotel. The check up was very fast in the morning got there showed all my paperwork waited 20 minutes other applicants only ahead of me. Doctor checked me over very fast asked me a few questions I was a little worried for this but it all went fine and smooth so don't stress!. Sent me for blood and urine sample and chest x-ray. This all was done within 1 hour of my booked apt time and I had to drive 12 blocks away for the blood,urine/ chest x-ray. Dr Cheema in Biritish Columbia if you're in Alberta or Sask is very good!. Just got the emal my results are on the way and should be in AB tmrw. Woohoo!

Congratulations on your journey! It can be very financially and emotionally draining towards the end getting where you need to be, I was from Alberta and found this very trying at the time.

You said you're planning to drive? The trek across northern Ontario is long and tiring, and the police enforce the speed limit of 90kph quite strictly. Might I suggest checking flight prices daily until you have to commit to it? I was able to round trip YYC to Montreal for just under $600 in January. Transportation from the airport in Montreal to downtown is cheap ($10 for a 24hr bus pass), and you may be able to find accommodation on AirBNB for a reasonable price (I managed $50/night, just a 10 minute walk to the consulate). Montreal is a beautiful and unique city and could make a fun mini vacation if your fiance is wanting to come out too. Feel free to contact me if you would like any pointers.

Show up early (not too early though, 20-30 minutes seems to be the recommendation on this site). Don't bring a backpack or any type of bags as you can't bring them in, and expect to leave your phone with security downstairs. Enjoy the view from the waiting area, it's great, and best of luck!

Congratulations!! So exciting. I never thought I would say living in Manitoba is sucky but it is for immigration purposes. My plan when the time comes is to fly to Montreal and have my medical and then a week later my interview and fly home. I plan on staying at an airbnb seems to be lots in Montreal around the consulate for a decent price. My Mum has offered to pay the airbnb for me which is soooo nice financially. Although she may come with me since neither of us has been to Montreal we plan on some sightseeing. Might as well make the best of it.

Nice Congratulations to you as well! I planned on doing that as well but when I called the Montreal medical office they said they were all booked until my interview date and to go book one with someone else so changed my plans a bit but it has all worked out so far ^_^ fingers crossed it continues. Keep me updated on how it goes and best of luck!

+1 to that, it was equally sucky living in Alberta for the same reasons. No panel physician in the area, and just over a week in Montreal to have the medical and interview. The Desjardins centre downtown has an IGA grocery store that was great for having some meals in the AirBNB place. Sales tax is almost 15% in Quebec, so beware when eating out. Best of luck!

Tax is something you Albertan's are not used to like the rest of us. Our taxes total in Manitoba is 13% so 15% is not that far off from what I am already used to. I believe the only ones without a provincial sales tax are Alberta, Nunavut, Yukon, and Northwest Territories. The rest of us are between 11%-15% total tax. :(
