Is I-864a necessary if you currently are above Poverty Guideline, but not 2 years prior?

I am in process of choosing my form for AOS (I-834 or I-834 + I-834a) and I'm wondering if it's necessary for me to file by myself or if it's better to get a co-sponsor. In the past tax year I have made over 125% of the National Poverty Guideline, however, in the previous two tax filing years, I did not. The two years I did not meet the requirements were tough years for me and I made significantly low income. In one of those years, I claimed a loss.

Another thing to consider is I do have liquid assets in my bank that I plan to include on my AOS (~$30,000).

I'm wondering how safe my AOS would be if I only submitted the AOS by myself or should I submit with a co-sponsor? Is the latest tax return what is most important or is history the bigger factor to an AOS being accepted?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

The latest tax return is what is important as the prior two years are optional to submit, but you need to have filed them. The current year taxes are what they use to mske a determination as to whether or not you meet the poverty guidelines. I would also submit an employment letter and or pay stubs to give them an idea of what you make on a monthly basis. BTW bits the I-864.

I did notice that submitting the Tax Transcript for the additional two years was optional. However, on the I-864 under part 6. 19.a,b.,c. asks you to fill in the Tax year and total income for the most previous year to the 3rd most recent year.

So although you don't have to submit the transcript the form is asking you to fill in that information.

And yeah, I just realized I incorrectly wrote I-834 but meant to write I-864. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes they do ask you however that is to ensure that you at least filed. I was in the same situation and I sent my current years tax transcript and completed the questions and I have not had any issues thus far.
