I-129F from Cambodia

Hi, I am new. My daughter is preparing her I-129F. She is living and working in Cambodia. She has been engaged since December. What suggestions does anyone have for her and I before we submit her period? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

The main suggestion is to read and follow the guide here, and ask questions as needed. Stay focused on what is being asked (both in the forms and in the interview) and not assume they mean something else. For instance, proof of meeting at least once within 2 years is an IMBRA requirement for the I-129F. Photos together are difficult to prove a date and time, so other, verifiable things like boarding passes, itineraries, receipts, etc. are generally better. Expect about 6-8 months currently from filing to K-1 issued.

Also, you said she is living abroad right now. She will need to show US domicile in order to complete the I-134 (for the interview stage later). The I-134 is an Affidavit of Support where she must meet the federal poverty guideline in order to sponsor her fiance coming to the US.

 

After her fiance comes to the US on the K-1, she must marry within 90 days and then he must file for AOS to get the green card.

Thank you geowrian. She is actually living with her fiance's sister down the street from where he lives. And working at a school as an English teacher. She doesn't make enough income to qualify as a sponser for the I-134 so we, her parents, intend to fill out a affidavit of support as well. Will this cause any? complications? She plans to take domicile with us. We make enough over the poverty level that we are hoping it will not. Your input is appreciated.

Alright. It sounds like she should have plenty of proof for meeting within 2 years. Just be sure to provide the proof with the I-129F. Each CO can choose to accept a joint sponsor or not for the I-134, but I haven't seen anything about the Cambodian embassy that implies they are reluctant to do so, so you should be fine.

 

That's fine. But since she is living abroad, I would suggest taking some evidence of US domicile to the interview in case they ask.
