I was wondering if the birth certificate is in a foreign language, can my spouse translate it himself, or must we get a certified translator to translate it? It's for the I-485 (and I'm wondering for the I-130 as well).

Anyone who is fluent in both languages can translate it along with a signed statement which you can find examples of with a short google search; there might even be an example somewhere on this forum. I, for instance, translated my husband's birth certificate. Other options are like rev.com and other translating services for a small fee.

I translated my document with a certified translator near where I live. It cost $20. Although I know the language, I don't know what official terms to use so I gave it to someone who is more familiar with wordings and he also stamped it to prove that he's certified.

Thank you! I was wondering since I saw the word "certify" in regards to translating the birth certificate so I got a bit confused on what was wanted. I will try to find some examples along the way.

I wished there was a certified translator near where we live, it's a small city, that could translate from his language to English, but there isn't one. I don't think it should be too difficult to translate it since he has done it before, so I'm hoping it will go well with him translating it himself.

Thank you you for sharing your experience with me.
