Hey y'all,

Does anyone have experience with applying for their license here in the US and had any name issues?

I just got a call from the DMV that my SAVE verification is (finally) complete and I can come in to get my license (I applied in my married name). However, the license cannot be in my married name because I'm known by DOHS by my maiden name. which is weird because I send AOS in my married name.  Any thoughts how I can make sure the license gets issued in my married name? Or how I could change it with DOHS? I thought changing your name here would suffice by changing it with the SSA office but according to the DMV that is incorrect information.

Edit: She told me in this case also my marriage certificate won't help proofing my name change.

What documents did you use when they verified you with USCIS? They scanned also your NOA1? It wasn't a problem for me in Texas - The DMV accepted the marriage certificate as name change evidence, at that time my SSC was even in my maiden name..

Sounds to me like they used my passport and I-94? All my DHS documents are in my married name so it's so weird, I even applied for the license in my married name. DHS should know I am going by my married name now because all my NOA's, EAD etc are in my married name. Confusing!

Yea... I mean. I don't know this for sure - but for me they used the foreign passport and i-94 as from the documents list, BUT they scanned also the marriage certificate and the NOA1 (she scanned all the papers in front of me), and the application as for you was in my married name. 

IF you EVEN presented your EAD, you definitely should get it in your married name!! That's a primary identification document, and that should have been the document used for verification.

Primary identification AND the most recent immigration document on top of that... lol that document itself proves that you are known in your married name to the DHS...

Yeah that's what I'd think too! Even my husband said he thinks they didn't do anything with the EAD but they scanned every document I brought with me like the NOA1. Umh hello, doesn't that prove DHS knows me by my married name?? :lol:
I'm already so done with Federal #######.

It's solved! Once I showed them my EAD again she's like "Oh yeah we can put in on your married name!" So my permanent license is now in my married name too ^_^ Stupid DMV makes it not any easier like this haha :lol:

Hey everyone, I got a question. I lived in the U.S. for two years on the J1 Visa as an Au Pair and therefore had a SSC and payed my taxes. I wanted to go to the SS Office today but the guy there told me that I couldnt change my name until I went to the DOHS and changed my name there though I brought my marriage certificate. I have never heard of this before and wanted to know, if I can do anything such as getting my license in my new name at all or if I have to wait until I am done with the AOS?
